Default Tailshaft - non replaceable parts?

I have a vibration that I suspect is a problem with the tailshaft. Took the car in for a full service, new tyres, the lot, and asked them to check the vibration. They found that 2 of the 4 centre bearing bolts were gone from one side so they replaced them. They said that they couldn't see anything else wrong with it but if the vibration is still there (which it is although not as bad as it was), then I'd have to take it to a driveline specialist. Rang around a couple of places (not Holden service centres) and have been told that Holden made the VZ SV6 with non-replaceable centre bearing & universal joints so if there's a problem, replacing the tailshaft is the only alternative. Anyone know if this is definitely correct?

I had a similar problem. My Monaro gets a fair beating, so suffice to say, it's only a matter of time until something claps out. Usually it's just tyres, but I did go through 2 standard clutches in about 1 1/2 years. A Textralia Z-Grip soon fixed that, so armed my with my awesome new clutch, 5000rpm launches became the norm.

This time, it was the centre bearing in the tailshaft. I rang McGrath's and was told that the centre bearing is a non-servicable item and a complete tailshaft is all they sell, which retails at close to $1000. After almost collapsing at the price, I rang around a bit for a second hand unit, it'll get me going again for the meantime. I am in the process of researching the possibility of having a custom one piece tailshaft made up. They put the 2 piece tailshaft in to supposedly reduce driveline vibrations.

Towards the diff there is a white sticker on the tailshaft, it will be either NA or NE, then ring your favourite Commodore wreckers and tell them that that is the tailshaft that you need. I rang Commwreck in Condell Park, they wanted $330 inc. GST and Smithfield Auto Wreckers want $250 inc. GST. Then grab a slab of your choice, enlist the help of some eager mates, then sit back sinking coldies as you watch them swapping your dud tailshaft over for your new one. Too easy.

ok heres the go for the v6's

5sp auto and 6sp manual have a splitable tailshaft that you can seperate and press off the centre bearing and re-fit a new one,

4sp auto is fitted with a pressed together tailshaft with a non servicable uni joint that dosnt allow splitting the shaft, so a new or reco tailshaft from a driveline mob is needed
