    Default Bypassing the Cat converter

    Hi Guys,

The office lady at work has a 2006 S V6 and the dude at the local mechanic reckons the comb stuff inside the cat is breaking up. I suggested smashing it all out but then apparently the sensors will go off. Is there anyway we can bullshit the sensor so it doesnt show a malfunction?

BTW in in New Zealand, and we dont legally need cats. So If a replacement pipe would be a better way to go then that is ok to.

Any help would be much appreciated as they are tyring to charge her $1200 just for the cat.

    Cheers

    Scott

my old vp 5ltr sounded pretty good with no cats or mufflers just a twin 2.5in hahaha... but hey if its legal to not run cats in nz i say just get the pipe extended and get rid of the cats altogether... a tuner should be able to fix the sensor problem
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!

Yeah I think it was $1200 just for the one!haha. and apparently thats second hand prices too! No shit.

I think shes keen to get rid of the cats if the sensor light doesnt come up. But that is the problem. There must be a reasonably easy way to mislead the sensor?

HAHA she's getting ripped if she pays that for "a cat" and second hand at that. You must be taking the piss mate, I paid $2000 for a complete stainless system on my VZ. Maybe ring a proper exhuast shop...

Is there any reason she doesn't want cats on it? Or does she just want the cheaper option?

just throw in a straight pipe, i've done it before on our old VY SS wagons we had (also in NZ) wouldn't cost more than $150, plus you shouldn't have to do anything to the O2 sensors but there is another sensor maybe exhaust temp sensor, if you tack the probe onto the pipe it goes off, sounds hoary as but its really not, all our new HSV and Holdens have the cats taken out before delivery.

Doesn't mean he is taking the piss, it just means some stooge is trying to rip his friend off.

Jesus that's ripe!! I was just quoted $700 for installation of brand new high flow cats..

Your getting ripped, tell them to stick it, and go to your local Exhaust Shop..

VY's have 2x sensors before the cats, VZ's have 4x sensors two before and two after the cats.

I've removed the cats on my VY for the same reason. I was quoted $500(nz) each to replace them.

I've been told the second sensors will play up on a VZ.

A few people have mentioned "oh i have taken my cats of my vs/vp/vy etc. with no problems"
Bear in mind that a removing an Alloytecs catalytic converters maybe be as simple as cut cut weld weld,
but the computer is MUCH more complex than its predecessor and may present problems with the o2 sensors.
