Default Intake Pipes on 175 vs 190 - Why are they Different?

    Hi All,

Does anyone know why there are different intake pipes for the 175 and 190 engines?

Here's a pic of my SV6 showing the 175 pipe fitted and the 190 pipe in front. You'll notice the 190 pipe has two large plastic parts coming off it.

I've read some previous threads that said it was to reduce noise, but I've noticed no difference running the 175 pipe for the past couple of weeks...

Does anyone know the actual reason they're different? I cant help but think it would somehow be used to improve performance for the 190 engine, otherwise why would they have changed it??

are these two plastic parts hollow, are they pipes and do they connect to anything or just sit there

    this is interesting!
does the 175 pipe increase induction noise on the 190 engine??
i would probably be interested in buying one then!

Resonance tuning for NVH issues at high RPM?

    I'm not afraid.

I've been running the 175 intake pipe for around 1 month now and haven't noticed any change in intake noise both at low and high RPM...

I've heard from a few people now that it's to reduce induction noise, but its just strange that both pipes made no difference on my car. Weird that holden would go to the effort of designing the different pipe when it basically makes no difference....

Liek Benny said they are resonace chambers to cut induction noise. The two different lengths would be for the variable intake (low and top end)

thats cos the Variable intake manifold valves are programmed to be wide open all the time cos they had a habit of rattling and jamming half open causing runner length issues....

had to delete the VIM amplifier on the VE's all together... pain in the ass job that was!

Wait so your saying the variable intake manifold does not actually work? I know mine make a chattering noise at idle.
