    Default oxygen sensor & exhaust

    Hey guys,

I recently got a 2 1/2" exhaust system (extractors too) and i've had my engine light come on the other day, and the message was "check powertrain"

I took it to Holden and they said it was my oxygen sensor, due to my new exhaust.

Is there anyway of fixing this/getting around it?

    cheers

my theory is the car is getting confused due to the sudden difference cuz it thinks you got a normal systen, you could reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and it should relearn it, if that dosn't work a performance memcal would do the trick

From what I understand, it won't be a faulty sensor, but to much airflow going through the sensor, causing the error.

Holden can clear the error, but it'll most likely come straight back.

Only true way to stop it from happening is getting a Tune.

9 times out of ten the coating on the extractors burns off and contaminates the O2 sensors. Did you change your cats too?

get a vcm suite tune, and remove the fault indicator for the aft oxy sensors,

did you get new cats aswell?

highflow or bored out cats will cause the issues

    hey guys,

A little bit off topic but close just about to purchase an full exhaust system myself for my L76 ss ute.
im going di filippo all the way , extractors, cat back and di filippo hi flow cats ( which im presuming are welded up ready to go including the oxy sensor positions by 4 to just bolt on).

do have to extend the oxy sensor wiring after installing it? if so can you buy the extensions or do you have to make them up?

i have already accepted the fact ill get the powertrain fault but from what i understand can be deleted by the vcm suite program.

Apparantly the computer freaks out because of the extra flow and crazy readings it gets from the oxy sensors and thinks the cats are faulty and flashes the error code.

    Any help appreciated.

    cheers

not sure how many of u have actually asked a exhaust shop about this, but when i got my extractors done the guy explained it to me as that the computer reads the flow output from both O2 sensors and if thats not right but also the O2 sensors have to be the same distance apart as there were from stock or else the same problem will come up so go back to the exhaust shop and see what they gonna do about it VCM only makes the problem show up but the problem is still there and O2 sensors aint cheap if u burn one out

just my input but when i got my extractors on the guy said that they have to be the same distance and that the cats have to meet the same flow rate as stock as if they flow higher or less the problem will show up again hope this info helps

Dude I'm over in brissy. I have had 2 quotes so far one for 1900 and the other for 1850. I'm happy with that considering the quotes I recieved about 6 months ago of 2500!

But yea those quotes are on Pacie extractors, Two high flow cats, 2.5 " single exhaust with a cross flow muffler.
