Hello!
I bought my VZ about two months ago, not a scratch on it, bar the wonky glove box. It tilts towards the passenger door.
Is there anything I can do to fix it? It functions fine but it annoys the f out of me.
If your car is under warranty, an ethical dealer will replace it knowing its a common fault. I say ethical because some dealers will try to pass it off as misuse.
If your car isn't under warranty i'm not sure how much they are from holden parts.
most tend to do that, something about being designed cheaply for the LHD conversion for overseas market
i have the same problem on my car but when I looked at it the only thing i could think that was wrong with it is that it was WARPED. since it is just plastic heat could cause it to warp.
i haven;t got around to it yet but i had the idea of adding a support inside of it, since it is just 2 pieces screwed together. this might take out the warping...i hope
I have a glove box for sale atm 2 tiny marks under neath that would be covered when oiled let me know if you keen. BTW to buy from holden (i know cause the old man got one) It will cost you $250!!!!!
if it's under warranty get it looked at by a dealer. if not. leave it till it breaks and buy one from a wrecked car.
a faulty glovebox is a roadworthy issue. (if the glove box doesnt hold itself up properly it's a road worthy issue) im saying get it looked at since it may break at the plastic hinges that hold it up. and then in effect become an unroadworthy car.
but if you look at the problem is not actually a fault more a poor design
No, it wont break unless you physically pull at it, yes it still sits in firmly, its just at one end it tends to "sag" away from the rest of the trim which gives the appearance of "ill fitting"
hmm, that's what my VY ute does as well, except the light in the glovebox is always on as well, so I had to remove the light.

Try dropping it down to its limits and check where the clips attach to see if one is possibly not on properly or perhaps started to misshape. or take the whole thing off and see how it looks then put it back on firmly and see what happens
if the rubber stops have broken away tho the glovebox tends to fall all the way down when you open it, it is possible as Holden did change them on the later VZ's to a beefier version, but once its closed they dont affect it at all.
I only know coz we have 3 VZ's plus my mates VZ all does the same
Should see it in the VE tho if you think the VZ looks bad ...
to fix this is simple
loosen all the screws holding the glovebox together
apply a small amount of pressure in the oppposite direction to the fault
normally across opposite corners.
hold the tension on it & have someone toghten the screws (dont strip them)
& then put it back in
fixed

It sounds like the small rubber stoppers on each side of the glovebox lid have torn as they do so commonly. Open the glovebox and look at each side of the lid. You will see a rubber bump-stop clipped into the side of the lid. These simply unplug from the lid and are easily replaced. Push the glove box shut, then re-open it and it should sit at the correct level.
The design of the bump stops is weak and could have been made much better if they had not been hollow.
What a load of rubbish. How on earth can a faulty glovebox lid be a roadworthy issue ????? Glovebox lids have absolutely NOTHING to do with roadworthiness of a vehicle. If you have ever been defected for a faulty glove box lid then believe me you must have really got up the cops nose or something even more annoying.
There are two versions of these little rubber stoppers, inferior one on the left, good one on the right. I just bought a set of the new ones today - $1 each. This will not fix a lazy glove box, what you have to do is open the glove box, push up on the left side and down on the right side (to warp it back to how it was) and then you shall once again, have a good looking glove box.

thanks heaps for that eh, do you just get the rubber stoppers from holden ?? or can you get them from supercheap or something ?thanks
you could probably get them from supercheap if you wanted, but for $2 from holden i'd just get them there - they're usually kept in stock.
Sorry mate, not trying to hyjack your thread,
but When I close my glove box the light inside seems to stay on all the time. My glove box lid doesn't seem to sit in properly just like yours
Would I need to replace the whole glovebox lid or just those little rubber peices mentioned above?
omg u go 2 holden buy new clips $1, and fit in it, happend 2 me, lol , and rofl @ guy who askin u to buy his glovebox....................
lucky i looked in here haha..my glovey stoppers have broken too and i tried to fix them myself by filling in the gaps of the triangle with silicon glue..it worked for about a week and they broke again..trip to holden for non breakable ones![]()

My apologies for the epic thread dig (and first post in 5 years)...
Just thought I'd post a fix for the common wonky glove box problem.
I have just recently purchased a second VZ commodore (VZ SVZ wagon for the family) in addition to my beloved VZ SV6, and one stand out thing I noticed about the new car was how nice and straight the glovebox was (I previously [before the family grew to 3] owned a VZ SS ute and it also suffered form glovebox droop).
Being such I common problem, I was surprised at this anomaly - so I pulled out the glove box and noticed that the hinge clips were two different colours and shape. The clip on the left was the standard grey clip and the clip on the right was blue and mounted slightly lower than the grey one, the offset in height compensating for the lean in the glovebox.
A quick call to local holden spare parts revealed that a revised clip was released in early '07. I ordered one, picked it up and installed it in the same manor as the SVZ and sloping glove box fixed for the sum of $1.80.
For those suffering the same problem the part numbers are as follows:
- Standard grey hinge clip (for the left) : 92210498
- Revised blue hinge clip (for the right) : 92189069
Pictures for those interested (apologies for the low quality phone pics)
