do you guys bother with locknuts?
im getting some new wheels when they finally come in and am wondering if i should run locknuts. i dont really live in a crimey area but wouldnt want to risk it.
if so, whats the best brand available or any recommendations?

Yeah id get them you never know what might happen there are alot of shady people around these days.
Any good auto store (Autobarn, Super cheap auto, Repco ) should have some
they all do the same job.
my 1996 vs berlina

their alright til ...
a) you lose the key and they have to be drilled off
b) you strip the key
or c) you strip the nut
Many workshops will attach a lock nut key to the end of a rattle gun to get on or off a lock nut, even though their not supposed too ...
I had a set with my VX and had some issues, in case you couldnt tell![]()
I agree. I used a set of recessed hex style ones so u can have them all on a wheel. where as one locknut per wheel can sometimes look out of place.
There's No Replacement For Displacement
youd be stupid not to get them, if ur gunna spend 2000 bux on a set of rims (possibly more :P ). then why wouldnt u spend an extra 30 for a set of locknuts. its like insurance for ur rims, ul regret it when they get stolen. i even have a set on the stockies on my vr after seeing a prank that went wrong to my mate(sum1 took off all the nuts for the front two wheels and when he was driving home from work the wheels fell off).
righto. ill likely get the best brand i can find. ive heard the cheap ones have about 3 different key combos so theyre easy to steal.
thanks guys.
CSA make one off's i have CSA lockers on mine
I have them on my VE only because they came that way. I wouldn't bother with them myself - the effort to flog a set of wheels vs what you actually get for them is not worth the effort these days.
Reaper
so your saying that these people who pay in excess of 5g's for a set of rims shouldnt get lock nuts cause thiefs see stealing an expensive set of rims as to much effort ,they would rather go out and buy a set....... think not i have had stockers stolen from a previous ride and you can get them from the wreckers for about $50...
i would buy the lock nuts, as old mate said think of it as insurance (i would call your insurance agency and have the rims added anyway)
i may of payed close to that at one stage (japanese one offs for the subaru, had to have custom centres ecte ect)...From experience you tend to make one hell of a noise trying to get lock nuts off (brother lost the key) where as it is reasonably quiet removing rims without lock nuts... as for organisation just about every car has a jack and tyre iron in it no prior organisation...end of convo im over it
Agree'd Reaper, I only had them on the VX coz it came with it.
As I type I have a lock nut and key on my desk, the key doesnt fit the lock nut because somewhere along the line the nuts have been damaged and flare out at the end (like theyve been belted on with a hammer ... go figure?)
Ive had the VE wheels on the Zed since before people knew it was possible in the very early stages, and even when those wheels "couldnt be fitted to pre VE" and were like one of a kind they stayed on the car.
Pro's and Cons, depends on your experience and dealings with said productOne argument could be that a car alarm going WAH WAH WAH WAH will deter a theif from stealing the car too ...
If they are going to give you some peace of mind,
buy some.
Only you know where you park your car,
we don't.
I'm not afraid.
the lock nuts i have on mine the key itself is like a socket/sleeve it slides over the nut, i have stud covers on mine with a special hex key anyway, but they cover is chrome painted plastic i think..
its just personal preference and your own piece of mind..
Im almost afraid to bring this topic back up after reading the above replies..but I need some advice. After recently buying the CSA Wheels for my car..I was quite suprised to see that they didnt come with locknuts. Now this is going to sound like a blonde question..but if I dont ask I wont learn. Do I only need 1 locknut per wheel ? is that enough of a deterrant ? Im really not sure where the best place to buy them is, and what questions I need to ask to make sure I get the right ones ? Im a bit over going to SuperCheap Auto and having a teenager not have enough knowledge to answer my questions. Im really disappointed that they didnt come with locknuts, especially given what they cost... but I will learn from that experience.

Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
theyre worth getting but they wont stop a good thief, just slow the thief down a little. that being said i dont use them myself.
I think they are worth getting, they are only there to stop the low brow type of thief - one of my friends has had his wheels swapped while shopping, he didint notice for a couple of days, the cheeky thieves swapped his rims and nearly new tyres for the same rims and bald tyres.... who looks at there tyres every time they get into there car?
Yeah, get them, only one per wheel. Don't do like I did and get the ones that have a wierd shaped piece in the centre of the nut that the key goes into- they stuff up quickly. Do get the ones that are designed so that the key goes over the outside of them, almost like a conventional wheel nut, as these won't strip and stuff up. Your looking at around $25 for a set of four at Autobarn or similar. I think my first crappy type were bought from S'cheap.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Mate 100% get lock nuts some prick stole my 20" black supersports of my ute about a year ago was shattered however it was my rookie error not having lock nuts. So now on my new set I have 3 on each wheelgood luck now u bastards!! Plus upgraded alarm system!
