    Angry Keyed!!!

So some LOWLIFE keyed my car over the weekend while it was parked outside my unit blocks......now the question is what's the best way to get it fixed..???will it be very costly...by the looks of it the mark is not very deep into the paint...I am hoping it's just through the clear coat...I tried searching the forum but couldn't find anything...obviously Iam very very P!@@#$d off...any help would be greatly appreciated...If someone can point me to a direction...can this be done by myself using a rubbing compound or do I need to take it to a paint repair shop????

bad luck mate that would piss me off too.

If it was me, I would take it to a paint shop just so that it gets fixed properly, nothing worse than only doing an 80% job and being constantly reminded everytime you see that spot on your car that doesnt look quite right.

If the majority of panels are keyed, insurance may repair it as a vandalism claim, worth checking anyway.

Its on the driver side right from the middle of front quarter panel to middle of rear one, so will take it to a paint shop on weekend and get insurance if its lot of money involved..

As hard as is it to do, You might have a chat with the panel beater before ringing insurance, he may tell you, as hard as is it to do, to key the bonnet and roof, this will warrant a full respray. A lot of people have done this as half-car resprays are obvious.

What colour is the car? If it's black you will never buff it out.

A white car you may cover most of it up - but if it's gone through any place to the undercoat then it will probably be a respray.

There's a very simple way to test if you can buff it out with a rubbing compound. Run your fingernail across the scratch. If you feel your fingernail getting caught in the scratch then no, it won't be buffed out.

It is possible to fix it yourself with some time and patience. Get a small bottle of touch up paint. Fill in the scratch using a toothpick and not a brush. When the level of the touch up paint is just above the level of the factory paint, lightly wet sand with 2000 grit wet paper. Then buff out the sanding marks with a good quality buffing compound. If you take it to a panel beater they'll probably want to respray the entire side. If you go through insurance you'll have to pay out the excess and then pay a higher premium because you made a claim.

Yeah I was thinking on the same lines...I will upload some pictures tonight which I took this morning to give a better idea...I tried to run my fingernails across and it didn't feel that bad...during the evening and at certain angle the scratch is not visible even..I am very fussy as my car doesn't even have a single mark except for this one...I keep it like a baby...

I know Autobarn can match up your paint for a fraction of what Holden will charge. Could always call Holden for a price first.

I doubt its jealousy. Simply people do not give a **** about other peoples property.

    Sucks to hear.

In that case you leave a note with your contact details to be a witness and the rego and details of the car that did the damage.

Yeah I thought of the same but I had walked to the place and didn't have a pen or paper...that's the reason I just stood and waited for the guy to come back....but couldn't stay longer...
