Hey guys
baught a new antenna and mast because my one is bent.
just wondering if anyone knows how to replace the antenna and mast.
cheers
its a VZ Exec if it makes any difference
Very easy to do mate
1.find aerial cable behind the glove box and unplug it.
2.jack the car up and take off the front wheel.
3.undo screws that hold the plastic inner guard in place.
4.undo nut for antenna and unplug earth wire.
5.pull out the assembly and replace mast.
I think that was all I had to do to fix mine, did it a few months ago now.Took me about 1 hour from start to finish.I may have missed a step or 2 but it was very easy.
did your car come with the automatic aerial (goes up and down by itself), or the manual one?? my manual one is pretty stuffed and was wondering if it was possible/worth the effort to change it to a automatic one???
thanks guys..
Mine was the fully auto,I just pulled it apart and cleaned it then put it back in and have had no problems since.I'm not too sure how hard it would be to install a new auto aerial,I guess you would have to see if there is a wiring harness connector near the aerial, however in saying that they arent too hard to install as they do have instructions on how to be installed and to what wires to connect to but I haven't had to do one for many years now as I usually replace them with a CB/UHF radio aerials.
I changed my manual one to an auto just days ago. I must say it was a pain in the ass but
its all pretty straight forward (except for the bracket). I had to modify the bracket to fit properly.. i bought my aerial from auto one at around $180.. The guys there said it would fit easly obvsly they've neva done it before..
Get a genuine one, I got an Aeropro one once, the bracket was a real PITA to get in the right position, and after about 8 months I had cause to open it up to replace a bent mast. I found that the mechanism which controls when it stops extending/retracting was pretty much shafted because every time it operates it has a little plastic cog inside with a metal contact, and when the contract reaches a certain point it stops moving, but when it contacts that point it sparks and due to the crappy design it had essentially "welded" a hole through the contact - it was plain as day it wasn't going to last long.
Holden one will cost a bit more, but will go the distance and bolt right up.

cranny or danja, is it possible for either of you to maybe give me a quick run down on the steps for a change over from a manual one to auto.. much appreciated...
Mine was an aftermarket one, but I believe the genuine ones are pretty much the same procedure.
It's pretty straightforward, the biggest PITA was getting the aftermarket unit to mount in the right position.
You remove the front left fender, take out the existing aerial, then bolt the new one in. There is a ground wire you mount to the chassis behind the fender (where the aerial is), then you need a power wire, you can tap this from any constant 12v line, or even better run a fused line from the fuse panel. Then you need the control wire from the head unit.

PROCEDURE:
-Take off front left wheel.
-Remove the plactic guard
(this will give you enough room to remove the aerial and replace it with a new one without taking off the front pannel)
-inside the cab remove the kick pannel so you can easly reach the cable that connects to the headunit.
-unearth and unplug the aerial and then remove the bolt holding it in place.
-place automatic aerial in position and see if the bracket will fit with out any mod.
-if the bracket dosnt fit properly you will have to modify it.
-once that is done make sure you poke the wire through into the cab so you dont have to go fishing for it later.
-plug all wires in and screw the earth down.
-once all that is done bolt auto aerial back in place.
-then put back the plastic guard and the wheel and your set to go.
-also 2 other things ull have to put a fuse in and make sure the aerial is straight when it comes out coz if it dosnt it looks dicky..
hope this helps![]()
