Hey everyone,
I have purchased an automatic alloy sports pedal (manual package off ebay - I sold the clutch and brake pads, and bought an automatic brake pad from holden).
Now my problem is... my Calais is an automatic, but I thought I'd get the manual throttle/accellerator anyway to give it a go, thinking it might not make a difference (even though I was expecting otherwise!)
But I installed the pedal and started the car, next minute I get about 4 different errors on the computer - "ESP Failed, Reduced Performace Mode, etc" and the car wasnt revving well at all. Needless to say I put my old pedal back in and all was fine.
Before you get confused... the calais (and SV6 i think) need a complete new throttle assembly with the pedal attached that plugs into the car essentially, not just a metal cover that slips over top.
My question is... is this a lost cause that I can't do anything about or... is it possible to take the car to holden and get them to reset the computer to acknowledge that the pedal has changed. I assume theres not much that can be done considering its a manual pedal. But any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!
Did you get a V8 pedal or a V6? IIRC the V8 and V6 are totally different. Not sure if manual/auto are different too.

My solution was to pull the 2 pedal boxes apart and swap the shaft/pedal over as the shaft is the same, its the potentiometer inside the box that is different and gives a different reading.
A reset wont fix it, and it goes into limp home mode![]()
Ah ok so if I crack open the new pedal box and take out the pedal and put it in the original box all will be fine? Was there any major issues you had in doing this or was it relatively straight forward?
If so this is freaking awesome!
Thanks so much. Saved me lots of $$$ and headaches!
i got the full alloy pedal assembly ex HBD from NVU online (see other tread)cost me like 80 bucks and was a straight swap for me SV6 pedal.then got the brake pedal and footrest from holden. no need to rip apart and swap sensors.
Yeah i did see the pedal on NVU the other day (never replied to my email either - pretty poor service!), but I thought I'd try save myself the waste of money. We'll see how it goes, definitely waiting for dad to do it - im sure as hell not touching it!! Thanks mate.
actually NVU didnt reply to my enquiry about some stuff either and when you consider I work in automotive parts and have a large database of people after Holden stuff you think the least they could do is reply, but anyway part of my job is if your not happy with one place you go elsewhere. I would shop with him if he replied to requests.
Yes, it is actually that simple. I think it had torx screws to crack open the box, but yeh just swap over your alloy pedal to your original box that stuffs the same.
heres the write up I did last time ...
Ive had this exact same thing. I brought a pedal for a manual SS and installed that into my auto acclaim with the 175kw. Same issue, safety mode, it brings up about 7 different errors when you start up, doesnt shift from 1st very easily yadda yadda yadda.
If your not sure - remove the pedal completely to check.
The box bit on the pedal where the car plugs into the pedal itself has some torx bits from memory, remove them so you can take the cover off.
The manual pedal says something to the effect of Holden Gen III whereas the autos just say Holden on the PCB breadboard.
If this is the case I just swapped the pedal and shaft themselves. The shaft comes out of the board completely and easily, I cant remember how its held in but its fairly straight forward and you'll understand when you see it.
I would suggest taking out the SS pedal to pull apart first so you understand coz if you break something at least you have the original pedal to put back in. Once you put the original pedal back in (or the original box bit back in) the error goes away,
If you have a manual pedal for an auto Holden will charge you at least an hour labour to diagnose, then tell you sorry this pedal isnt compatible with this car, pay 300 bucks for a new one.
Also the easiest way to take it out without removing half the dash and BCM is to remove the plastic bracket that the pedal is screwed too. It uses 4x smallish nuts, just get a long reach socket. Cant remember the size, its about a 8 or 10 mm or something. Undo the 4x nuts and the whole yellowish bracket comes out. Then just unscrew the 2 bolts that hold the pedal on while its outside the car. Then theres no need to be near the BCM. Its a bit fiddly but Ive done it to a few VZ's now
