Default Valve timing cover gasket oil leak - Big job?

    G'day all,

A few weeks back, we booked our 2005 VZ SV6 in for a service. The car was returned to us with the news that it has a minor oil leak at the valve timing cover gasket. Holden informed us that it would be a big job to repair and quoted us $990. Does that sound reasonable or are we being taken for a ride? There seems to be VERY little literature available for the Alloytec motor.

    Regards,
    Dave

I don't know the exact cost but i know Holden always charge more then a regular mechanic. For example i got quoted $400 for my 80,000km service at Holden, the same service only cost me $250 at my local mechanic. That a $150 saving!!.

Yeah. I hate how different dealerships charge different amounts for the same job too. It's highway robbery!

Anyone know how much a replacement valve timing cover gasket would cost installed?

well essentually you have to pull all the ancillaries off the front of the motor to do it, so that, plus gasket goo, coolent, and other gaskets, + labour

if its not to bad you you havnt notice it drip, just degrease it off every couple of months and dont worry about it
