    Default Tuning.

Does getting your car serviced reset your tune?
If it does do i have to fork out another 900 to get it vcm tuned again?

Dont quote me on this but I believe the tuner can lock the ecu so that it cant be written over...

Even if they do flash an update in your tuner can just quickly reflash your tune back in. No need to go back on the dyno for a retune. CHE did this for free for me when holden did an update on my car

Hey Torana, Is there a massive difference in responsiveness/power after your tune? Im so close to getting it done but I would like to know if its worth it... How is your fuel economy after tune?

Well my tune responded very well so i got a 25rwhp gain at the top end up to 40rwhp in the midrange. By the seat of the pants is feels alot more lively down low as some of the torque abuse is removed. In the mid and top end it revs out quicker but i would not call it a HUGE difference. Its hard to tell with out driving the same car back to back with and without the tune.

To give you a good idea a stock SV6 Auto runs a 15.3. I managed a 14.89 after my tune with standard paper filter and stock airbox. The fuel economy is slightly better but not a huge difference. All in all im very happy with the results for $900 as there is no extra noise or ways for the cops to tell it has been modified. I would also recommend CHE to do the tune!! great service!!

None until i got my service today where i put in a K&N panel filter. It seems to pull a little harder in the top-end now but only very slightly. Im planning on some 3.7 diff gears in the future to really give it some kick off the mark.

OK. Thanks heaps for the info mate. You have me convinced. Nice results By the way!

I have 2.5inch catback, Monaro CAI and manifold insulators so its ready for tuning with the bits on. Im hoping for 210rwkw or better which is realistic I reckon. The best bit you mentioned was the better punch down low. Did the boys at CHE let you stick around and watch them work? I reckon it would be heaps interesting watching them hey?!?!?

If you have a 06 VZ Exec like it says your profile that you do......... you wont get anywhere near 210rwkw, thats unrealistic. go look at the dyno results area for vz's......

Yep i was there all day. Dale is the bloke that does all the tunes and he really knows his stuff. After the big runs i would go into the booth and ask him questions ect. Also don't you mean RWHP!!, 210 RWKW is 280RWHP which is about 280 kw's at the motor lol.

To put things into perspective the Alloytech motors are very hit and miss out of the factory. For example mine was only putting out 168rwhp on the first untuned run. This is the equivalent to 168kw's at the motor (Holden claim 190kw at the motor on the sv6) where others put out the full 190 and some put out even lower figure then mine did standard. After the tune we ended up with 194rwhp. Since yours is the 175kw motor, assuming you get about 175/180RWHP with the mods you have you should end up with about 195RWHP give or take after the tune. Remember im just guessing here. Your car may respond better or worse to a tune then mine did, Dales claims about 15RWHP on most tunes and i was lucky to get 25RWHP.

I thinks he has confused RWKW's with RWHP.

Tuners have a limited amount of time to spend tuning your car nor do they ever wish to have anything go astray on it........ so even with a proper legit tuners work, you'll only ever get a base tune......... general torque taken from 68 to 100 in the main rpm tables and the fuel trims smoothed out with VZ's on the dyno............ thats all they do, and a small tiny adjustment of spark reductions etc..... to stop spark pulling so much due to the engine temps. Most dont stray from these minor adjustments........

They dont touch bigger things which give you ALOT more power in general........ From a tuner your likely to gain 15-20kw realistically for the total engine output. So if you dyno'd say 121kw stock they might be able to take it to around 140ish. oh and by these figures I'm refering to RWKW

Thanks Torana, thats what I meant. You seem to be on the ball.

I was basing my estimates on Squarks results in the dyno figures thread. (below)

    Dyno Sheets

He seems to have similar specs but maybe he was lucky... I would be happy with 200-210rwhp. As long as they get rid of that torque management rubbish.

Yeah all dynos are different. Also you said you only had a catback exhaust, he may have extractors too. Like i said your car may only put out 160RWHP standard, then add 10hp for the intake,Insulator and catback, then a maximum of about 25 for the tune if your lucky (most only gain about 15-20). That will come to 195RWHP. That being said if your car is putting out the full 175RWHP standard then you could very well crack the 200RWHP mark.

I know Andymans 175kw did 126 point something RWKW recently but there was a little bit more then that, but that wasnt a CHE tune

Wow 139RWKW's is what the 190kw SV6's put out standard!!!. I guess the catback, insulators, and CAI made quite a difference.

    Hopefully see some good gains.

i estimate it at around 135rwkw now, mainly because i had my car running too ong idling before it went on the dyno, thermo fans comming on etc,

so on the dyno it was running 60 degree iat, so having that higher intake temp pulls 5 degrees timing,

ive made more changes since then, inital very minor tune work pulled 126.7rwkw

Had my car serviced yesterday, got the waterpump replaced, transmission serviced again and finally put in a K&N panel filter. I just took it for a spin and the new K&N filter has made quite a difference right though the rev range. My guess would be about a .2 off my 0-100. Not sure about the power difference though. Im guessing only a few HP. I think it would be close to 200RWHP now Now to get my diff gears and a re-tune at CHE

    i doubt a k&n filter would require a retune.
