Default Cost for a transmission service?

    G'day all,

How much should a normal transmission service for a VZ SV6 (5-speed sports auto) cost? By 'normal' service, I mean a gearbox flush and fluid change and a diff oil change.

    Any assistance is appreciated!

    Regards,
    Dave

It costs me $170 with my local mechanic. That' for a filter and oil change for the gearbox. NOT including the diff fluid though.

I'm thinking about getting it done to my VZ Calais soon. In terms of 'feel' what does it accomplish? Will it smooth up the shift a bit (it used to be silky smooth to the point you could barely feel it, now you get a slight nudge doing 1st to 2nd)?

Yea I am wondering the same thing, I would just be worried if they don't do it correctly it could cause some issues?

Ive had mine serviced twice and each time it has firmed up the shifts and made it feel sportier. That being said if you take off slowly you don't feel the shifts, only when you take off at more then 1/4 throttle. They are supposed to run 150k before the first service but i got mine done at 80k when i bought the car to be safe. I also did it a second time at the 90k service for good measure. I think i will wait 20k between services from now on.

I'd say as a general rule, it is good to change the transmission fluid every 40,000km. 150,000km between changes will bring bad news.
