Hi guys,
About 8 months ago I bought an 04 VZ wagon with 95 thousand'ks. While going over it at home I found only water in the radiator so I changed that for coolant I got from Holden. Pretty much since then I have been able to smell coolant when the motor is warm. I don't think it is using any of the coolant and there is no signs it is getting into the oil or anything. The motor does have a slight wining noise kind of like driving with the A/C on but its not. I was thinking maybe the water pump is on its way out and some coolant is getting on top of the hot motor hence the smell. But I'm not even sure where the water pump is on a Commodore because its my first (I have always had Ford's). I didn't think Commodores had head or gasket problems or at least I'm hoping not. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Suggest you go to a radiator/cooling specialist and have your cooling system pressure tested. The only way (for sure) to find if you have any leaks/problems.
could be your heater core . but hope not
more than likely the casting plug on the water pump is weeping, or the heater hoses clamps are loose
