Worked on cars all my life and done all the serviceing on them. Bought a VZ 1995 3.6 Crewman this year and doing my first oil and filter change. The filter is a element type not a screw on. So I am looking for a canister, cant find it it any where. Is it in the the sump pan I am wondering. Any help would be appreciated.
hey mate i dont have a alloytec but i think i remember reading that the filter canister is on top, just take the right hand side cover off and you should see the top of the canister with a nut welded on top, it just screws out.
Yep on the passenger side. It won't look like your usual filter. One sec and I'll find you a photo.

Cheers people for the info, was piss easy, with all the cars and other vehicles ive worked on through out my career this is undoubtablly the easiest oil filter change I have ever encountered. Kudos to Holden for putiing the filter element in a canister and at the top of the engine for easy access. Finally an engineer who thinks of the mechanic. Hooray
Hate to be cynical but....
it was probably designed to increase the
profit margin of an oil change.
I'm not afraid.
@ $10 a filter even just chaging the filter is worth it![]()

Hi, was going to change the oil today in my 2007 6 cylinder alloytek,
l found the filter spot thanks to threads on this forum,
ive looked over & under the car for the drain plug,
surly its not under that heavy bash plate??(sump guard)
why would it be under their?? if it was under there Holden would put a hole in it so you could get a socket & extention on it surly???
no l wont take it off to look,
ill ask on the forum first,,
Do l have to remove the sump guard to gain axcess to the oil drain plug??
