    Default Alloy Tech Noise VZ

I have just purchased a May 2005 Storm Ute and have only done 700km. I have got a ratterly, knocky type noise from the front of the eng at times when I take off and the eng is under load about 2000rpm. This does't happen all the time but mainly when its cold, but can happen when driving around town. Have been back to dealer for answers, they had a look and presto its now a known problem in the front of the eng around the timing area. Have no fix for it yet and apparently it does no damage but is annoying at times.
Has anyone else had this problem, as its disappointing for a new car.

Who cares, it's a warranty issue.

my engine is like this on a cold start for about 2 minutes, when engine is idleing, then the revs drop to 900rpm,all quiet, rang dealer told them about the problem, they said have to keep it in over-night,so in the morning the can see where the noise is coming from.

I have an sv6 that had a similar issue. During cold start, it'd make an intermittent scraping sound for the first minute or so and seemed to go away when it warmed up.

Holden fixed it under warranty, the invoice says "repositioned heat shields on exhaust due to hitting" - no problem since.

i think this is the problem on mine, seems to be more noise on the drivers side, wasnt to sure, thought it was valvetrain noise.

The heat shields hitting is a common thing, havent heard any noisy timing gear, have seen a broken valve spring or two, but these have been missing not noisy

Dose it sound like metal on metal.......

My ute had the same sound....its common with VZ's

One of the exhaust heat shields touches the exhaust..........give it a go...but as i say it is a common problem that your dealer should be aware of already

Thanks for reply, but mech at dealership said it was in timing area not a heat shield thing, will keep posted when I get a result.

    Question

My SV6 growls in the back end all the time in the wet. It's the traction control cutting in and doing what it is supposed to do. But I didn't think Utes had traction control.

    Unhappy noise

ive noticed a noise from drivers side, sounds like a rattly plastic bottle (maybe it is) and can hear it when going over bumps or when tyres hit small bumps.

this is in a VZ LS1 Ute --maybe same prob.?

    anyone else heard ?

My VZ Lumina has had a few odd noises since new, now all fixed.
    1. Power steering pump noisy when cold causing vibration through the steering wheel. Replaced after a 6 month wait and 2 temporary fixes.
    2. Front stabiliser bar loose, at about 500ks. rattling sound and vibration coming from drivers side.
    3. Sway bar loose, at 4000ks. Produced a knocking and thump when braking hard. Sound coming from drivers side.
Not being too mechanical I thought a stabiliser bar and a sway bar were the same thing, maybe my dealer is just trying to confuse me further.
