Default new exhaust wanted, help needed

    hey people
Im interested in getting an exhaust on my sv6, but the only problem is ive been told by people that putting an exhaust on the alloytec's make it sound like a wet fart,

is this true or is there exhausts I can get that would make it sound good?

Really depends on your personal opinion. The alloytech can be made to sound good but it cant compete with the note the v8's make.
Most people go either 2.5" or twin 2.25" catback with centre muffler and rear resonator, then obviously your various brands of extractors and high flow cats.
My system is Pacemaker extractors, high flow cats and 2.5" catback with centre muffler and rear resonator.
Keep in mind that if you replace your stock cats you will have to get it tuned as it will throw a fault code.

    - Hope this helps =)

Well i have duel 2.5 with pacemakers and high flow cats and it sounds awesome.

Now with the cats i would defently change them, if you do the originals ones are gonna sit like 2 balls hanging when you change your extractors, i got mine done and no light has come up at all.

    Good Luck

Duel 2.5" on a v6? bit excessive dont you think, unless your not a fan of power lower in the rev range.

Do you want a new system or a second hand one. The genuine holden V8 systems fit the alloytec and can be picked up for next to nothing . I put a genuine ss system onto my vz calais and I am very happy with it . It took about an hour to change over and bolted straight up. I has a bit of a note at idle and growls when you boot it and is not farty at all . It gives a noticeable improvement all round in my 190 and looks good with the twin tips. Checkout some of the other threads talking about V8 exhausts on an alloytec.

Yeah I got told by a bunch of places the drone above 40km/h is unbearable.

I ended up finding one that is custom made for the VZ Alloytec SV6 engine, no extractors, just straight cats and muffler, sounds great throughout the rev range (especially in 3rd around 4000rpm).

If you're in Melbourne, pm me and I'll give you the details of the guy who did the work for me. Or if you're not, I could give you his number (he works for an Exhaust Company) and he might be able to refer you to someone in your area.

Generally, V6's cannot produce a decent exhaust sound because of the firing order of the engine. Doesn't matter what you do, short of an engine swap to V8, will always sound like a 'wet fart' and backgrouond droning sound.

I've got an SVZ Ute.. alloytec 190kw.. and i've got pacemaker extractors -> twin 2 1/2" exhaust.. standard cats as far as i know (still throws the powertrain error ) and i reckon that sounds pretty awesome, there's sometimes a drone when cold but apart from that she sounds nice and deep

Have you had your Ute tuned yet? You probably need to get it tuned to get rid of the Powertrain Error.

Hey guys, the exhaust is on FINALLY!
It does a good job, more all round output and a deeper note to it!
    twin tips look tough too!
overall the car is not overly loud at all! could possibly even go louder although its a nice sensible growl.

Hope this helps people in the future

hey guys. i picked up my exhaust from a guy in perth. got it sent down here to melb thru a mate for nothing :P ...

It's a vz 5.7 v8 SS cat-back exhaust system. twin 2.1/4 system. twin mufflers through to resi & twin tips.
not too sure about the 2.5 systems as ive heard of too many droning and power loss issues.

i'm looking at getting pacies & high flow cats bolted up to the SS system. i'll let you know how its goes when i get it. not sure how soon im gna get them as im still looking around for the best brands and results

overall the SS system does a good job. Keeps its quiet although adds a nice deep note to it. Im mainly just upgrading for more power.
