I have a bog standard VZ Executive (sorry guys, nothing exciting here) and it has truly terrible rear wheel grip on damp roads. And I'm being generous using the word "damp"! We're talking spinning wheels when pulling away at the most modest of speeds and the rear end sliding all over the place going round corners.
The tyres look okay so I'm puzzled as to why it's so bad. I'm assuming this isn't normal so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what the problem might be.
What brand of tyres are fitted and what pressure are you running ???
Yep real tyres cost more $100 and don"t come from china
Guys, just running the (I assume) standard Bridgestones at around 36 - although I must admit I'll have to check the actual figure tomorrow. Might I need to look at a different pressure?
36 is way to high .when the tyre heats up the pressures goes higher and the tyre contact patch gets smaller try running 28 psi in the rear and 30 in the front and consider better tyres than what comes standard ...
try using less than 100% throttle![]()
Run your tyres at 34.
Check the condition of the inner and middle of the tyre as these can wear differently to the rest of the tyre depending on camber and tyre pressures etc.
30psi is whats reccomended,
its not uncommon for re-92's to send a car skidding sidweways though lol, nice, rock solid tyre there

I'm not afraid.
Mine is the same, wife drives it more than me and is always complaining she does little wheelies off the lights, shit 15" taranza's !!!! RE92 even worse!!!
I have also come around a round about very slow and had to chase the thing up the road...no fun with no LSD

My Dad, has exactly the same car as u but a wagon with RE92's, he keeps pressures 30-32 for the front & 32-34 for the rears & he has no probs with traction.
Ill say you'll have to lighten up on the throttle abit! Keeping in mind it doesnt take much to spin wheels on damp conditions, no matter what type of car you drive![]()
The Blue One
Try putting a couple of subs and amps in the boot, that way with the extra weight you won't have any issues![]()
Thanks guys, I'll modify the pressure and see how it goes. However, you've confirmed my suspicions that while the tyres seem in reasonable condition they are not exactly top quality to start with.
May be time to look at an upgrade because when all's said and done this is the car that the wife and kids travel in the most.
how old are the tyres and how many kms have you done on them ???? could have gone off by now check out the Yokohama range c drive and s drive
RE-92's are a very low grade, ordinary tyre and were well past their use-by date when they were still being fitted as original equipment on VZ's.
If you can afford to buy decent tyres now, I wouldn't wait till the 92's were worn out before replacing them.
Nah, sounds like VERY shit driving to me. Unless there's something on the road (oil etc), you have adequate tread on your tyres and DO NOT use TOO much accelerator, then your vehicle should be safe and stable when driven on wet/damp roads. Suggest you make an appointment with a driver training centre and take a few lessons before you kill some innocent motorist or pedestrian with your poor driving technique(s).
A little harsh, but probably a factor. The tyre type and condition will affect grip (obviously), but I guess too much eagerness on the throttle in an Auto will spin yourself crazy too.
Also, Traction Control, on/off (Does the Exec's come with this option??). I know I'm being really gay here, but when it's wet, I never touch the Traction on my car. There's too much of a difference from on and off.
I remember some tool in a BA XR6 try to fully sic turn onto the Monash on the Burke Street Entrance, and his car ended up ping-ponging across the barriers. Since I saw that, never touched the Traction when wet.
This will definetly help. Turn the traction control on!
