Just purchased a VZ S Pac one tonner, does changing the air box & exhaust help the economy greatly?
I talked to the previous owner & he told me that he could only get about 50 ltrs out of the tank giving him 400Ks per tank as the pick up would not get the remaining 15 odd litres.
He said it was a manufactures problem that could not be fixed, is this correct?
Can't speak on the Ute's behalf, but with the SV6, I've got an Airbox, Exhaust, had it tuned, and also only ever use BP Ultimate, and I average 9-9.5 driving in normal conditions.
400km from a 50L tank gives you around 12-12.5L, which might be acceptable if its Auto, driven mainly in heavy traffic. The computer not picking up the last 15 litres, may mean the tank needs to be re-calibrated, although, I judge the remaining litres based on the k's I've done on that tank. The computer can be out quite a bit sometimes.
Another way to check is to hold Set and Mode while the ignition is in Accessory and then turn to On. It will bring up the system settings, which shows how much fuel is left in litres. You can use that to monitor to see if there is a problem with the fuel tank or the computer.
If its still under Warranty, take it to Holden and get them to re-calibrate it.
thanks trademarc for the advice, previous owner was Jens, he did a lot of country Ks & always could only get agout tha 400 mark so I will look into getting it recalibrated, yes it is an auto with a Bosston tray on the back which makes it a bit heavier than a ali tray back, Id be very happy to get under the 10s when all is finished thanks for the fast reply, will keep u informed.
I have a VZ wagon with a 75 litre tank. I can only use 65 litres of it as the remaining 10 is held back to maintain pressure and cooling of the fuel system. Holden will not/cannot solve the 'problem'. So therefore I am destined to carry around 10 litre sof fuel that I cannot use simply because Holden failed to design a system that would enable me to make use of it. Hope that answers your question.
thanks Benboy, that would answer my question quiet well as Jens could not get any answers from the people here in perth. I guess the next step would be to get a bigger/extra/gas tank? Very poor of holden to design such up thing in a country that has such large distances between fuel bowsers. (In the country areas that is.)
The tank has probably been designed that way. You would have to pull the pump out & see what is going on. Easiest way to improve the situation is to Fit Lpg to it with a decent tank - with gov help it does not cost that much. I had two tanks fitted to my Hilux with a vs ecotech in it - combined with petrol gives me over 180 litres which means I can buy fuel when prices are cheap & hold out when prices are up.
hey guys, just got of the phone (after waiting 10min) from holden aust & Im told that the fuel tank capacity is only a 64ltr! That would explain why Jens could not fit anymore than 60lrs in it. so its carring jerry cans with me all the time.
I did look into putting on gas & it is now $5000.00 with a $1600.00 cash back from Kevin. so no gas for me.
Damn!, we were thinking of LPG conversion too, but at that cost...now way! Thanks Aussie Gov for makin it easier for the battler....thats a quarter of the cars worth...
I have a VZ povo pack and it gets 800 - 900 km on a tank highway use - I thought that was awesome after having a 351 that was lucky to get 300km on a tank higway use. That was driving with cruise control most of the time.
$5000 would be pretty expensive setup - seen plenty cheaper than that even liquid injection -
