On sat just after lunch my key to my SV6 decided to die, seein as i bought from auction i only had one key
had to wait till monday, get car towed to holden ($80)
& get new key done ($150)
if anyone who also owns one key has any spare time go get a 2nd key
it was possibly the worst weekend ever
just a heads up to save someone else suffering this s**t problem
When in the chicken coup, if i wanna get lucky, i get clucky clucky
That sounds like a nightmare!
I only have one key for my Commodore atm and it's starting to die on me.
The button has almost fallen off :-(
I'll get one done next weekend, @ $140 a pop it isn't exactly cheap.
But I found a place in sydney that apparently does them way cheaper.
holden did mums for 110
and the minut man (key cutter place) did my one for 120.
both commodore keys.
yeah tis a bit of a punch in the nuts, metaphorically, but worth the safe guard of it i reckon.
especially if your as unoganised as me and BOUND TO LOSE IT! :P
you cant start the car with a dead key battery? damn.
i thought that was for remote unlocking only

my sv6 only came with one. key. i will defs pic a new one up next week when i get paid. eeeek thats scary!!
do u have to get them dona at holden?
Nope, anywhere that will program keys can do it.. Mr Mint, Mint Master, etc..
I've got 4 keys for my VZ haha. Got holden to make another 2 when I bought the car, and another one made at Mr Mint..
Something I don't understand, is the people who keep their spare key in their car lol.. The mind boggles.
WTB: VZ Chasers
Guess it depends. With the manuals, you need to depress the clutch as well, so I'd say you could prolly manually open (I'm gonna try it after work tonight lol).
I'd say the electrics/accessory mobilise with the key press, and the engine with the ignition cylinder. (Prolly backed up the auto lights)

spare keys in glove box are as usefull as a bull with tits
but yeh it was a nightmare no car for weekend
& right after holden shut on sat!!!

Yeh I only got one key aswell, the last owner said she'll give it to me when she finds it lol
If i were to get one from Holden and spend $100+ wonder if you can get a Ve flip key?
Or maybe you could find out if a VE flip key can get coded to work with a VZ.
I dont see why not!
You just gotta find one that hasnt been coded before.
The Blue One
Paul, I believe the VE uses a different frequency or coding or something.
We have the same issues with Discovery 2 and Freelander, for instance Disco 2 ran from 98 to 04 but had a frequency change in 2000 from 315 to 433 Mhz so the earlier key, say from a 1999 model, wont program to the new frequency, eg 2000 on. Its like trying to send a photo via bluetooth to a phone thats only got infra red.
Im only going off what ive been told, I dont know if Holden did the same or not but I believe when they went flip key they changed something stopping you from using the flip key.
Personally I dont like flip keys, Ive seen waaaaaay to many of them break apart from different manufacturers like lose the tension spring so they dont sit in the ignition properly.
do the Ve's flip keys have the little metal ball on the key for the slip ring on the igniton otherwise it won't start
flip keys are just as big as a normal key.
wont work with a an earlier model because of the contact point on the key fob ( ve's dont have these)
if you wanna save money and batteries are going flat or missing buttons, just purchase the key fob cos it will save you a few dollars
