Default SV6 Impulse Blue with paint problems?

Hey all, finally (we've had a few weeks of on and off rain etc) got to clean the new girl last weekend, and found the paint work was not up to standard. What I have is an Impulse Blue SV6, '05 plate, and the paint work has the following ...

    1. A few dark blue spots that look like paint mix spots, way under the clear coat, smooth to touch, 2 small spots size of a large bread cromb on the boot close to the rear window, and a couple of smaller spots on the roof and bonnet.

    2. A heap of what look like water marks under the clear coat, they are like a dull spot, but smooth to touch ... all about the sixe of a large freckle. These are on the boot, rear spoiler, roof, bonnet ... but seems less on the doors and front / rear panels.

    3. A few raised spots that look like dirt under paint / clear coat.

Taking her around to a panel shop this morning for their technical opinion and then to Holden dealer for a warranty report.

Will post when I have technical descriptions etc ...

Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems with the paintwork on a new commodore ...

Hey, Ive got a white 05 SV6 and noticed only 3 or 4 spots. Mainly under the spoiler on the boot. But me not too worried about it...where as yours, you should i think go back to Holden cause that aint good enough.

My dad works for toyota as a spray painter and he says if there is one little spot that the qc sees...its goota be fixd or the car gets trashed totally!

Daym them Japanese company...arent they good for being soo anal!

    OK, here's an update.

Went to my smash repair mate ... conclusion, there is 'contamination' on the paintwork with a few small spots that need to be 'denibbed' (these are the hard raised spots) and the few darker spots are where the paint is missing (possibly due to silicon or something being on the navy undercoat, but as the clear coast has then fillied in the hole it feels smooth to touch) ... fix is respray of the spots with missing paint (but he warned me the colour match and quality could then be a problem) and for the rest, after a few denibs, a good old fashioned cut and buff of the whole car ...

So, off to Holden I went, saw the service guy, he looked at it, pointed to a smash repairer they use behind the dealership said 'dirve over there I'll meet you there' ... saw the guy there, he was instructed to do a quote to fix the lot and send over to the dealership ... in the meantime, service guy took my details and said he will call when the Holden warranty guys are in town possibly 3-4 weeks, once they ok it, work will be done ...

So, so far, moving along ok ... just hope they remember to call me when the Holden guys are in town, and they then approve it !!

Had car in for 3000 km service today and got answer re the paint work ...

'contamination' not covered by warranty ... my issue 'it's a new car' so how can it be my fault? They respond, go back to the selling dealer as Holden warranty will not cover it.

The raised bits and the small black dots (missing paint spots) will be fixed under warranty by a 'respray' of the spots ...

mmm, issue here, mate in the industry says NEVER respray unless doing the WHOLE car as can not match the paint and will look worse .. so, holden warranty will fix these and quote is about $500 (which they have agreed to pay) so, I'll get my mate to quote a denib and full buff for ... say $500.

    Let's see how I go ...

Put your concerns in writing and ask for a written response.

It the paint flaws are caused by or at the factory, then my question is,
How on earth can it not be warranty?

It sounds like the buggers are trying to pull a shifty on you!! Grrrrrrrrrr

I agree, give them written notice of your claim, give them 14 days to respond - in the letter put that if your not satisfied with the response you will make an application with the dept of fair trading. That will get them moving and if it doesn't lodge the application!!

Sorry to hear about your paint issues. Its definetly warranty no matter what. One of my previous holden cars had paint issues. I made them respray most of the drivers side and a few other bits here and there due to crap in the paint work. All from factory mind you. They didnt dispute it one of their reps came out to have a look as well. I picked out all the defects and covered the car in red dots (stickers) so the panel shop can see what needed doing. Mind you the car went in all up apx 3-5times for the same issue because some bits were missed. Nothing worse than having a new car repainted. Keep on their backs about it. All the best with it.

    Default Paint did get fixed!

Been a while and I forgot about this thread I started ... to close the loop, I had the clear coat buffed back and resprayed UNDER WARRANTY. Had to go through a bit to get it sorted ... best angle was turning up in my full work gear (suit and tie) and 'acting' like I was a legal eagle, scared the s^%& out of the service manager when I demanded to see the dealer princpal holding a piece of paper (he thought it was a service of legal claim). Funny how I ended up with it fixed after that ... better than writing a letter to fair trading and getting lost in the gov't system!

BTW, they still maintain it was my fault, not warranty and only did fix it to maintain good customer relations (I wonder if the sign I had with me that read 'talk to me before you buy a car here' had anything to do with it considering they had a big weekend 'sale' starting the next day) ... ahhhh, timing is everything!

FYI, I do not use that dealer anymore!

The above strategies are not subject to copyright or any claim by me ... feel free to try them for yourself but be aware they may just work !

My VZ SV6 had rust spots coming up in the boot on both side near the rubber.

They had it for a full week Mon thru to Friday and in all honesty they did a good job, completely resprayed the affected area.

This particular did it on-site as they have their own panel and paint.

Sup fellas dont mean to hi-jack the thread but i bought my 06' SV6 from a dealer car was an ex-fleet/business car when i bought the car i didnt really notice the rear left quarter panel had some minor body work done to it but after givin my car a good polish i can see under the paint file marks and small "fish eyes" in the paint work, also in the arch the paint is coming away from the original paint. Question am i able to get any of this fixed under warranty? and 2 there should be some kinda rule wheres cars under new car warranty should declare any body work thats been done to the car.
