Executive - SSX kit and VCM enquiries...

Hey all,

Long time reader, first time poster.
I've always lusted over the SSX concept, and have seen you can get a bodykit with the same front (HSV for the rest) :



Has anyone seen/owned this type of kit before? Mine is red like in the photo, but I'm wondering if SS headlights will be needed. There are VZ variants, though the VY headlights are nice...

Also I'm trying to find out what kind of performance/fuel gains people have received with a VCM tune on the Alloytec engines. Most threads that mention it fade off and never really give an answer.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Power gains on tune depend on tuner.. how ever ive heard that fuel cons.. is better and the car jumps harder off the line. Although it is a fairly expensive 'mod', im personally gonna go as long as possible with out it..

That frontbar was on an SV6 somewhere, car got sold i think and havent heard much from it for a while

i assume your talking about my old car, there are 2 types of ssx front bar, vy and vz, the vz has a bigger hole for the bigger vz holden lion badge and is made to suit vz head lights, the vy is the same as the concept car. so if you want that one any vy lights will do except berlina calais and hsv, but it wont line up with your bonnet, so your best off getting the vz one

josh(rolnbg) owns it now since i moved to london, he gets on here sometimes

Just as impulse said above its tuner dependant. i reckon you should do a search in the QLD section for tuners, or if not post a question there to see who does VCM tunes. that would be your best bet i'd imagine

I think Im sold on getting the SSX kit. That looks real good.
I know a few places around North Queensland that do VCM tunes, but finding someone willing/talented with a V6 is the hard part :P

You got 3 options in Townsville;

TMS for $1500
Bob Hawkings for $900 (but he told me not to expect any power gains)
Aitkenvale Auto for $900.

The only person I would trust in Townsville would be Peter at TMS....

Also all vz headlights are the exact same size and all are interchangable.

Yeh there's blokes in Adelaide near Gepps Cross that do the SSX front kit. looks mint on this blue vz ute i saw near the place a while back. (they also do a nice HDT kit for VE's) but yeh mate i reckon get it.
As for the tune. do the same as impulse and hold off for as long as possible. its best to get all your mods first then do the tune as the final mod. that way the benefits from exhaust etc can be fully utilized.

sure is, but its a good quality one, nice and thick as well, plenty of layers
