Hello there , I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. The motor either cold or warm seems like it is miss firing at random times. Sometimes it happens first thing in the morning or sometime during driving then goes away after 15 mins sometimes it doesnt. I thought it might be the plugs but it isnt mis firing all the time. I changed the oil about a week before the problem first arose I dont know if that has anything to do with it.
Replace spark plugs and oxygen sensors, check coils and replace/reseat as necessary.
Regards,
Dave
Injected CNG, LNG & LPG: The only way to go better!
How many Kays has the car done. Coils have been a common problem on the VZ's which have done over 100,000ks....
Try this - floor it from a standing start, 100% throttle, and see if the car missfires or takes a while to build up revs... If so, it could be your coil(s).
My coil problems would only show if the car was under heavy acceleration, but would be otherwise fine under regular driving.
Hope this helps.
Thanks guys. Replaced plugs today but made no difference. The car has done 90k. How hard are the oxygen sensors to replace and how much are they? Also now a "check powertrain" message comes up on start up. Are checking the coils easy?
Go to Holden and get them to scan and find what the powertrain error is referring to, you don't want to have to replace O2 sensors unless you have to, they are quite pricey.
About 2 months ago I had the same problem. Put it in drive, handbrake on and foot 100% and should missfire like the other guys said. I changed coil no. 4 and scanned to get rid of powertrain fault and fixed!
Hey
I had the same problem It also used to smoke a little. I only run it on Premium and the missus was putting normal unleaded in it so when we started to run it on premium again problem solved.
hey guys guess what! i have the exact same problem.
miss firing and check power train warning, has anyone solved this problem yet?
theres a recall on those motors (altho i think its only for ve), the reluctor wheel on the end of the crank shaft slips out of phaze with the cam sensor. this causes an engine code. ive only ever heard of thise causing 1 case of misfire tho, and in that case the car also wasnt serviced in 30,000km. just check with your holden dealer whether or not your vehicle is affected or not. also while your there get them to check the tech2 on it. see if its logged any codes
Is there anyway to test the coils? And how much are they?
I'm not afraid.
hey guys took the car to an auto electrician today. he put the scanner on the car and it came up with #2 fuel injector fault. He told me how to do a few quick checks on the fuel injector to see if its faulty electrical wise. He thinks if the injector looks ok it will be the ECM and only Holden can install them and at a price of $900 dollars just for the part and not the installation hopefully I will be able to get an aftermarket ECM.
I had the same thing wrong with my car spent about 4 months in and out of mechanics and automotive specialists. Had ECM, BCM replaced, sparks replaced at least 3 or 4 times, replaced all connections. Turns out it was one of the coils but every time I had one that was supposed to be faulty replaced another would die on me, all up cost me around about $5000 to fix. (Coils were about $200 including labour per fitting) Not cheap I recommend you get your coils/coil pack checked!!
Good Luck!
Couldn't be without my Commodore
Maybe you should sell it and Buy a SS??? :P

HFV6 coils manufactured between 8 May and 10 May 2004 are known to fail prematurely. Check the date on your coils and replace if affected. They have the date printed on the side - if you have any with "04-05-08", "04-05-09" or "04-05-10" then that's quite likely your problem.

I have had it confirmed from a holden employee that these will need to be replaced eventually.
Instead of spending $5000 like the unlucky bloke above, here is an alternative solution.
Buy these: GENUINE HOLDEN COMMODORE VZ V6 BOSCH COILS 3.6L - eBay, Other Car Parts, Accessories, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 02-Jan-10 11:38:52 AEDST)
And replace them yourself (let me know if you would like some advice - but its pretty simple) If you get this done by holden, you'll end up paying around $150 per coil to get them replaced, so just get the whole lot done for the same price by buying them online.
In a worst case scenario that this does not solve your problem, you'll know coils are not going to cause any problems in the future. Based on how common they seem to be failing it seems like a smart move to me.![]()
I've got a guy i work with who has a 2006 sv6 and his car missfires aswell?? usually when it's cold and he's driving along at about 100 it'll seem like it's missing.. does it often n holden 'claim' they don't know whats wrong with it..
Well I narrowed down this mis to No.2 cylinder. I replaced the coil pack today for that cylinder but it made know difference at all. Maybe the injector?
I swapped no1 and no2 injector over yesterday and still a miss in no2 cylinder. I am stumped now
I replaced all coil packs. to be on the safe side (check my earlier Post on coils Aug/sept 09 ??) $1200 and that fixed the problem.
Took it to Holden today, they reckon its the ECU. Ill pick it up tomorrow hopefully fixed .
