    Default Removing console panels

    Hi all,

The leather joining the console to the gear stick has started to come apart on my car.

I don't think its ripped, just pulled out. Does anyone know of a method of how to get the panels off to reattach the leather?

    Cheers

You'll need to take off the top half of the centre console to get to the shifter surround. There's one screw to take off underneath the little sprinloaded drawer in the centre of the dash. After removing this open up your console box and lift the top console cover. It's held on by about 6 or so clips. Here's a pic that explains it better:

From here you should be able to unhook the shifter surround from its base, there's 4 clips holding it in. Look underneath the shifter surround and you'll be able to reattach the shifter boot.

That says it all, except having a magnetic screwdriver helps, especially for the screw right under the radio.

I just did my shifter boot cover, put a new one in. I found that 2 of the little plastic protruding clips were broken off so the rear of the boot cover didnt have anything holding it in place. I had to super glue that part of it down to the plastic or it would pull out exposing a gap when shifter was in park.

If I can't get mine to stick I may get a HBD kit...

Turns out this is exactly what my problem was too. But she's all good now.

mines like that now, put it in park and you can see the leather has pulled away from the surround at the back..not sure if i wanna pull the dash apart though.
Sticking a Chev badge on any Commodore is like putting a Nissan badge on a VL

Its not too hard. Just follow the diagram above. What that doesn't mention is you need to pry out another trim piece before you can get access to the leather.

    Glad I did it.

yeh, was thinking about getting the silver satin trim on the shifter anyway so when ever i get one of them i'll do it all in one hit, but for now its not annoying me much. I think super glue will do the job as said above if the clips are broken.

Sounds like a common weak point on these, btw the boot cover isn't real leather :P Getting to it is easy, I looked at ASR's audio section on the forums here and found a link to a guide for doing the interior lighting mod, had a couple pics showing how to remove the center console. There's also a scan from the holden workshop manual floating around here.
It's just clips and one screw, btw the shift knob just pulls off EASILY once you undo the torq screw behind it. I read a misinformative post on here saying you have to pull REALLY hard to get it off, DO NOT DO THAT, remove the screw and it pulls off easily.
