    Thumbs down SV6 Fuel Gauge-FAIL

ok, so yesterday i had just dropped off some people, and was cruising around, not thrashing it. and i pulled up and gave it a bit of a rev, and all of a sudden my fuel gauge went from half a tank to nothing and the fuel alarm was going off. i was freaking out!
(i overreact ) i drove it forward a little to see if for some reason i was leaking fuel, nothing. so i figured the petrol would still be in there.
so went for a drive to the petrol station, and as i was driving it started to slowly creep back up.
has anyone else had the same problem?
just wondering if thats my fuel gauge slowly saying goodbye, or if its just another vz sv6 glitch and to ignore it....?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Your car is haunted!

Seriously, ive never had this happen to me. Did anything else occur or was it just to the fuel gauge?

    FML!!!
    haha.
nah thats was it. i was giving it a good ole revy ( it was well and truely warmed up and stops at 4gs anywho)
then all of a sudden i heard this beep, and i looked and my fuel gauge was dropping so quickly, like some one cut a 10cm hold in my fuel tank. then it was below empty and WARNING LOW FUEL wouldnt leave me alone. then once i strated driving again, it started to slowly creep back up.
is that my car telling me it's a pansy?! haha.

    Yeah happened to me.
As soon as it went below half-way, it would fluctuate wildly from half to empty and then back up, but the Dist To Empty would remain constant (never figured that one out but anyway...)
Took it to Holden (this was while it was still under Warranty), and the re-calibrated the fuel tank and replaced the O2 sensor, and its been fine since (happened about 2 years ago).

Might be worth having your mechanic take a look at it, or if you go to Holden, have them take a look. It's a common problem so I'd say they'd know exactly what was wrong

Well, $0.00, cuz it was under Warranty , I guess you can call the Service Dept of your local dealership and they can give you a rough price.
Also, issues like that are probably factory faults as opposed to it being neglected, although a lack of regular servicing can exacerbate the issue

Its a pretty normal VZ thing. My car has it, you just have to be aware of how much you put in when you filled up and keep an eye on consumption. Remember 75L fuel tank.

500/600 kays a tank seems to be normal for me.

That fuel guage and the distance to empty etc is all a load of crock. I can get my fuel level to go up by actually thrashing the car ... go figure.

You can try a software update and be charged for it, or just know when to fill up. As i said for me thats between 500 to 600 kays seems to be spot on, even then I still have 10 or so litres left in the tank.

you'll get that kinda thing happening when u have less than about half a tank and u go driving in hilly areas. it shouldn't happen on the flat...

sounds like the in tank fuel guage sensor is on the way out. There is 2 parts to the fuel tank assembly. the fuel pump & the guage sensor which seems like it is faulty. Vz has one of their own too & cannot be exchanged for the vt or vx or vy assembly. hope this helps

Best thing to do is just calculate it in your head, or reset the trip meter everytime you fill up. You should 550-600min per tank, so even if the fuel gauge isnt reading properly just go by that.
Also, check the system menu every now and then, that tells you exactly how many litres you have left in the tank.

lol mines never done it whilst the car is running, but sometimes when i start the car it will say my fuel tank is completely empty, even tho i know that i have plenty of fuel, so i just turn the car off n start it again n its all good, dunno what causes it but it doesnt really bother me that much.

    pretty common problem i thought?

mine does it. always fill up when it shows quarter tank left. once it hits quarter tank the needle moves up and down a few times, so no idea how much petrol i actually have

thats in my vt. When we had the vy ss, it did the same thing. was on half a tank, then one day just decided to go from half a tank to empty. The road it was on when it stopped was pretty slanted, so the car wouldnt start till i pushed to a more even surface

mehh, just make sure you fill up before you actually have to
