Default Tri-Y extractors on vz ss?

hey, i did i minor search and could not find much..so here goes.

i just called up 'sureflow exhaust' at ingleburn for some quotes on these extractors because i read they are real good for low down torque power..

the guy there told me that he wouldn't recommend them on the vz ss because it would push the cats further back on the car and they would not work properly, resulting in noise in emission problems. then the car would need a tune aswell but still illegal.

he told me to go with the 'short 4 headers' which give a "slight" increase in all power ranges.. has anyone got 'Try-Y' extractors and know whether or not they won't work on my car?? also what are your opinions on 'short 4 headers'??

    Cheers, josh.

I've got try y's on mine mate, yeah the cats are moved back, due to the headers being bit longer, but ive never heard that it is illegal. The car will not need a tune after getting it done.

Shifting the cats is not illegal. You still have cats. They are just a bit further down in the system. As long as you use EPA compliant cats and not 100 CPI hi flows, then you will be fine if you do get tested.

You can't really move the stock cats because of their shape. They will hang too low and have clearance problems.

so you're saying if i get a set or headers/extractors that force cats back on car, i will need to replace them anyway because they will sit too low??

that's annoying because i wanted to keep my factory 'sport exhaust' that car was made with..2.5" pretty sure it is

i spoke to a guy at pulse racing in Menai and he said with his complete 3.5", stainless exhaust, hi flow cats exhaust package and a tune afterwards, he can get me 260rwkw... $4600 tho!

so i was leaning towards just sum good headers and a tune with my current exhaust.

so if i get longer than standard headers or extractors, it will need new cats anyway because factory ones will sit too low???

that's really annoying coz i dont mind the factory 'sports exhaust' it came with..

a guy at pulse racing menai told me with his full exhaust 3.5" stainless exhaust package with hi flow cats etc and a tune afterwards will get me about 260rwkw.. $4600 tho!! so i'm heading towards just headers and tune on existing exhaust if thats possible

The flanges where the exhaust bolts on don't change regardless of what you get up front.

Yes, the factory cats will hang too low.
