Hi,
I've got a set of Vault Savannah 20 x 8.5" on my SS.. It's got 225/35 tyres on it and has split sidewalls.. hmm?!?! Anyway.. i need 2 new rear tyres n was wondering what brands you recommend?
Also should i be running 245/35's not 225's ?
Thanks
Sorry to say but those wheels get an instant thumbs down from me. Only thing more disgusting are Zenetti Heirs.
Read this. To help you decide.

Maxxis Maxxis Victra i-pro came out pretty good for a budget tyre.
I'm not afraid.
What is the load rating requirement on your tyre placard?...depending on that you may have some trouble with certain brands not being legal.
where do i find that out?
I ****ing hate the rims, they came with the car and they're shocking.. i wanna get some 19's !
yeh my sv6 came with 17" Crystal Vaults, they are S**THOUSE chrome shouldnt b on commys
just im to poor atm to do anythin about it so im coppin it
When in the chicken coup, if i wanna get lucky, i get clucky clucky
Ok the tyre placard states the load rating no lower than 91W...
My issue:
I took the car back to holden, and they replaced the 2 tyres that had splits in the sidewalls. They replaced them with 235/30/20's and they put them on the front (company policy, more braking happens at the front etc etc).
The tyres they have put on the front are rated 88W.
The rear tyres and now what used to be on the front (these weren't split so were fine).. they are 225/35/20's and rated 93W (which seems to be fine)..
however i have just noticed the rear tyres are now slightly starting to split?!?!?! what the **** is causing this? they are apparently rated fine for the car/rim..
One option i thought of could be that due to the rim being 8.5" wide.. and running 225 wide tyres, the tyres are having to stretch around the rim and thus putting too much force on them and splitting the sidewalls?
If anyone has any other ideas, i'm gonna take it to a good wheel/tyre place n get this sorted argh!
Also, what tyre pressure should i be running on 225/35/20 or 245/35/20 tyres
thanks!
Take it back to Holden and demand they put the correct load rated tyres on...that is crap...they and the fitters who fitted them should have known better... they also should have told you they were putting under loaded tyres on the car... if you had an accident it's the first thing they are gonna look at....
If the sidewalls are splitting its usually beacuse you haven't had enough pressure in them..or otherwise known as runflat...ie..you ran on your tyres when they were flat... most manufacturers will laugh if you try and claim them under warranty..
225/35/20's should be run at no less than 36psi and I'd be running 40-45psi to be safe...obviously the lower the profile, the the higher the pressure required to absorb road impacts...yes it is gonna ride harsh..but that;s the price you pay for 20's...
Cheers for the help![]()
I just got new rear tyres put on it, 245/30/20's, continental contisport 2's, rides fine and is a lot better.. running 40psi in them.
SORTED.
