Hi All,
Yesterday I noticed there was a bright orange fluid dripping down onto my sump. I immediately thought this might be coolant? But it seems quick thick and oily to touch. It appears to be dripping down the front of the engine, possibly from the top pulley.
Any advice on what this might be, things to check etc? Cheers all.
with it being that bright i would guess coolant too,
dont think it would be transmission oil up the front there so maybe power steering fluid?
maybe check the colour of that.
have a look at it running hot see if its coming from the water pump.
Yup thyats coolant. Time for a new water pump. Did you change your radiator cap recently?
Orange, that looks to be red!
Id say ur water pump has spat the dummy.
The Blue One
+1
the holden factory coolant is "long life" and its red, so the colour will change slightly.
And the water pumps have been spitting the dummy![]()
I havent replaced it, but I think the current radiator cap is on its way out... What impact could this have?
I had the power steering and water pumps replaced around 9 months ago... so strange they are failing again, could it be anything else? If not I guess at least it will be a warranty claim...
Take the pulley off the water pump to find where the
coolant is coming from.
The gasket sealant on my pump failed. You could try and
nip the pumps bolts up a bit if weeping from gasket.
Careful as the bolts are only 10nm.
I'm not afraid.
as far as i no factory coolant isn,t red its orange and could be power steering mixed with coolant degrease it an then run ya motor for a while should be able to see where its comin from mate????????????that colour red seems faily bright to me![]()
I am 100% positive thats coolant!
I am pretty confident you are right - But its just a bit of a shock considering I had the water pump replaced not too long ago.
I managed to take another picture from underneath the pump, you can see there is a bit of orange/red residue there.
could it just be one of the pipes? i had a leaking pipe recently, infact i had a roted radiator toothat sucked. lol recently means last effing week. i got everything done at the dealer to keep my used car warrenty. 1.2k later. lol But yeah had a busted pipe and a rooted radiator. Hopefully yourse isnt that dire. Id been having problems with it for a while, had flushed it afew times and what not. Was trying to work out what it might be with my uncle. But yeah had no luck, and as we hoped it wouldnt be, it was the radiator.
Anyway. that post was really useless by me. sorry for wasting your time.
Have you tried nipping up the pump bolts? Looks like its leaking from under the gasket.
Ended up getting the water pump replaced under warranty. Repair guy said the previous mechanic installed a cheaper brand of pump that can warp when it gets very hot...
New pump installed with lots of sealant and problem solved.
trusty old water pump
lots of sealant???? The genuine ones leak from the pump housing itself, not the metal housing to block gasket.
But I suppose if its fixed the problem all I can say is![]()
the same happened to mine bout 6months ago seals around the waterpump goes, didn't cost too much to get fixed
After I replaced the cap and pump, the water outlet attached the the engine where the cap sits on started to leak. 2 o rings under there. Apparently its quite common. O-ring 30bux each at Holden. Told them to get pharked. Went to Bunnings 35cents. thats 10,000% markup. Had to buy the other o-ring as it was a strange shape.
