My VZ has just completed 82000KMs, should i still use 10w/30 as specified in the booklet? or go for 10/40, 14/40???? i was confused by someone saying oil grade should change after your car has done over 80000..
Should i buy Synthetic?brand?
any good oil filter?
Appreciate your help..
As the engine wears, it will start to become noisier as time goes on. This should be conpensated by using a thicker oil.
10/30 or 10/40 theres not much difference, wont be an issue using 10/40. I use 10/40 in my SV6 & its only done 63000.
Ive changed to Nulon 100% Synthetic from Mobil 1 Super Syn, cause i was starting to get a lil bit of tapet noise.
Ive also always used Ryco Oil filters, theres no need to spend extra money on high performance filters
An oil filter is only going to perform well, if u change ur oil regularly!
The Blue One
the genuine Holden filter is only 10 bucks and when I was looking even the cheapest aftermarket filter still cost more then the genuine
Honestly I havent noticed a difference and Im running all sorts of different oil - Castrol Edge Sport for Track days, Magnatec for every other day, Valvoline semi synthetic when the mechanic has it.
Mines done more then 160 000 kays.
continue on with the 10w-30, i believe the days on using thicker oil is gone, oil viscosity plays a larger role in motors these days as components (such as vvt solenoids) need a specific oil thickness to operate correctly
ive got 94,000 on mine and still using 5w-30 valvoline durablend, runs perfect on it

A semi synthetic blend 10-30 si ideal ryt up2 130000kms. y semi synthetic? cause semi synthetic has synthetic blend in a mineral based oil so naturalli u get best of both worlds in oils. if ur car is supercharged or turbo charge onli use full synthetic has the heat from the two are so great synthetic will b able to transfer the heat quika bein a teflon base. also semi synthetic is ideal for short city trips and towing. after 130000kms i reconmend a 15w-40 tright upto 200000kms n afta that use 20w50 if ur vehicles isnt using excessive oil amounts.
was thinking the same thing
Chev badges are an instant fail
thats fine for a push rod ohv motor, but newer high spinning motors with oil actuated vvt needs a thinner oil like 10w-30 to keep the vvt components working correctly, a full mineral based oil i not good in vvt equiped cars as it will sludge in the components,
in saying that too, ive been using 10w-30 in a mates vx thats done 270,000km for the last 50,000km and it dosnt burn any more oil than typical ecotec, so over 10,000km its on the add mark

Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho
Have a look on the Castrol site Castrol Australia for specific recommendations for their oil.
They recommend Castrol GTX Modern 10W - 30 for VZ 3.6 2004-2005 models.
For later model (2006), they also recommend Castrol GTX Modern 10W - 30 and Castrol Magnatec 10W - 40
For the 2007 model, the recommendation is for Castrol Edge Sport 5W - 30 or Castrol Magnatec 10W - 40
