Sorry to refresh this thread, just adding to this I've always wanted a sunroof as well, but I've heard lots of rumors that adding an aftermarket sunroof is never recommended due to the lack of durability and integrity of the car afterward. Is it true that after a few years they start to leak and rust etc?

Prestige Sunroofs in Burwood VIC have got some awesome Hollandia sunroofs. I was quoted 1850 fitted for a Hollandia 900 (a while back though).
They gurantee it to be the best fit, comes with 3 year warranty.
And they're no bullshit too, the guy outright told me, you might find cheaper around, but the quality of their installs cannot be matched.

I havent got one yet (2k's a lot of money) and they need it for a couple of days, but its on my to do list though.

    Cheers mate,

I had a look at their website and asked for a quote. I'm interested in the 700 series. That's pretty cheap what you got quoted.

Well, I won't let anyone do any work on my car, unless it comes with a Warranty period, and I see official licensed documentation saying they are an approved business to do what they do.
That way, you cover bases, I definitely wouldnt let Joe down the road do a sunroof on the side for me.

We bought my mum's PT Cruiser with an aftermarket sunroof. No idea how long it's been installed, who did it, price payed etc., but to this day we've had no leaks and no issues with it. It hasn't rusted, but as the_trademarc said, an official documented warranty is a must.

On a slightly different note, I was told by a dealer (unsure as to extent of the truth) that factory Holden sunroofs are expensive to fix, due to the manufacturer being based overseas. He recommended aftermarket (then again, he wanted me to buy the car), but anyone able to shed some light on this? (no pun intended).

Unless the sunroof is a factory install on a luxury model, the re-sale value of your car will plummet.

    Is there any reason why?

also Holliander 900 is the "HBD" sunroof (if you check a sunroof installed by Holden By Design it has Holliander on it)

Also bear in mind even a HBD option is exactly they same, the holes not in the roof from factory, its cut at the dealership/HBD workshop well after the cars rolled off the assembly line

Can't say a bad word against Holliander sunroof, had it for 3 years and although it made a bit of a noise at 160k's, normal driving is perfect and doesnt leak when it rains.

Actually makes it a little more reassuring then...

They're Commodores... resale value plummets by the day.

Adding a (properly installed) sunroof will easily increase buyer interest as it's just another option/mod to ad to the list.

Now if someone cut a hole in the roof of a classic or collectable car and whacked in one of those dodgy 80s pop ups, then yes, it would affect value a great deal, but c'mon, it's not going to affect the value of a Commodore.
