    Default Vz lpg

    Hi guys

Does anyone have a VZ on LPG? Any problems experienced. i have a VX on LPG which works fine but just curious how the new Alloytec handles gas? Holden don't seem to have anything specific about whether the Alloytec is compatible with gas.

    Thanks

dont know how a alloytec conversion would go mate but my old man has a ve factory gas, and runs perfectly. feels like petrol. although i beleive they put hardened valve seats and heads and all that stuff on the factory lpg cars.

We have a VZ SV6 with aftermarket LPG and it has covered over 30,000km on gas with zero issues. It has a sequential gas injection system (OMVL Dream XXI distributed by Sprint Gas Australia) and you would not be able to pick the difference between the fuels. Gas consumption is under 14L/100km in the suburbs and under 9L/100km in the country. The system starts the engine on petrol and switches over to LPG sequentially (read: seamlessly) when the coolant temp hits 40C which is almost instant when the car is warm on on a summer day but can take up to 3 minutes on a cold start in the middle of winter.

My Vz on factory gas has given endless problems such as engine miss underload, rough idle, stalls, triggers 'check drive train' warning frequently.Car retuned to holden 6 times for warranty claims and still runs like shit. If you do dare to buy a duel fuel VZ at least make sure it has the Factory
'N' code motor (built at factory to suit LPG) which can be found on the VIN number. Only factory gas cars have this Motor.

LPG is more spark sensitive than petrol as a fuel. This means that you will need to pay extra attention to your ignition system. Our VZ SV6 has 80,000km on it (31,000 of those km on LPG) and has a slight miss when cold (goes away when engine is warm). It will get new Bosch double platinum spark plugs gapped to 1.1mm installed during the next service at 82,000km. Your symptoms may also be caused by faulty ignition coils or oxygen sensors.

Also, I don't agree with the factory gas thing. You're MUCH better off with an aftermarket ICOM JTG Liquid Injection system on a High Output Alloytec (SV6 / Calais / etc).

my VZ Warranty LPG fixes? as follows: New plugs, new ecu,new injectors(LPG),new coils, replaced all filters, new sensor for LPG,reflash/program.The car runs perfect at highway speeds but idles rough(only happened after re-programe).Dealer says oxygen sensors OK,no "drive train warning" lately.

Any help would be Appreciated.Any good GAS places in melbourne people could recommend?

I've spoken to many people who have VZs on gas and they say that the Alloyec doesn't really mate up with gas too well, including several performance tuners. Lot of issues.

Over all I am very happy with my car, it is a surperb highway cruiser, maybe just anoyed with the dealer, they seem to struggle trouble shooting LPG problems. I will never go back to petrol only!

That's completely false. The Alloytec engine runs very well on LPG. The factory setup isn't great though from what I have heard and Holden dealers are useless at sorting problems out.

You really need a gas fitter who knows the AEB processor and the BRC Sequent injection system in order to get the most out of the factory setup, or if you want to go one step further, I would recommend JTG as I have mentioned previously.

Anthony at A&M Automotive may be able to help you out. Sounds like you have a poor tune.

Yep, most dealer mechanics wouldn't know about LPG to save their lives.

Default 2005 VZ executive gas conversion

I have recently bought a 2005 vz executive. I want to go for gas conversion. Some companies recommend Liquid injection which is costing me $2000 after government rebate. There are a few authorised mechanics who are confidently say that since it is 2005 model, i can go for a cheaper alternative which costs me $950 after rebate. Can anyone suggest me which is the best option ?

Liquid injection supposedly gives better power and economy returns than the alternative sequential injection.

My VZ Calais has a sequential injection gas system fitted and it runs great, and has done so for the last 30,000km's or so. I'm very happy with it, economy is awesome, beats paying for petrol at the price that it's at now, and the power difference is really not noticeable.

If you want to spend the extra $1k or so on the liquid injection kit then I'd say go for it, reports I've heard of the system are very good. But if you want to save that $1k to put towards something more important then you'll still be getting a great kit.

Whatever you do though, avoid going to EzyGas (I think that's what they're called). I have a family friend that went through them and service was poor, installation was messy and performance of the system was not up to scratch. She had to take her car to my dad (gas fitter) to fix their dodgy work.
