my water pump does the occasional squeal......... i've taken my cap off once or twice. i think mines probably on the way out but who knows........ seems ok to me.

Mine will squeal after u've just some hard driving, pulled up quick and shut the car off........ the heatsoak after the cars off seems to stuff it a bit.....

Who knows? A person with mechanical knowledge would know! You obviously have no idea.

my radiator cap failed resulting in overheating engine, i replaced it then couple of months later the water pump also failed, this is common as the cooling system (or any system, auto trans etc) is only as good as its weakest part.

I think it fails because when you replace it you should probably redo your coolant and ensure you get all the air bubbles out.........

Did you happen to change the thermostat as well as the radiator cap? Surely just changing the cap would not introduce that much air into the system?

I heard that CPC caps (probably the most common aftermarket replacement brand for caps) have been well known to completely fail, including their fuel filler caps. IMHO genuine all the way, god knows what this cheap sh*t is doing to your car.

I think this is just one of those placebo things, i really doubt replacing or even removing a radiator cap would 'give u air bubbles' considering the oxygen in water to begin with. Im guessing that the problem with the water pump is causing an issue with the radiator cap and you lads are looking at it back to front..

I replaced my coolant cap with one from Repco, possibly CPC after the genuine one shit itself and my water pump is fine 50,000km later... Cap also only cost me $1 due to a sale at repco, so i bought 2 of them... one is in the shed incase it was shit
    Life starts at 200km/h

yea my guess is that the water pump is fudged to begin with, which blows the cap, replace the cap and it blows the pump

the vz cooling system is very good BUT
its only as good as its weakest point so
wasnt holding pressure before cap change and fitted cap then likely it may start leaking under higher pressure

OR you fitted too higher pressure cap

OR you spilled coolant on the belt and now the small amount the pulleys are missaligned is causing belt noise
which is more likely as these pumps themselves dont normally get noisy they just leak from the shaft on the pump

SO take your belt off and spin the pump and see if its noisy or doesnt spin smoothly, if bad replace
if pump doesnt have white stain dripping down on the metal under it and its not rooted then
personally i would take belt off and wipe it down clean with a solvent like degreaser also clean the pulleys with degreaser then FIT THE BELT ON THE OTHER WAY AROUND
if this gets rid of your noise get another belt and likely the power steering pump needs to be aligned take it too holden for this or GOOD workshop
with a laser aligning tool for the pulleys

    hope this helps man!~
