hi was having a look under the commodore and found this cylinder attached to the exhaust and was wondering what it was? it has no cables or anything attached
it is located at the back just after the diff.
thanks

It's a dampener, to absorb vibration.
Crack it open, it's prolly full of cash...lol..
Nah honestly, I have no idea, never seen anything like it.
Looks like a good hiding spot for drug lords though....
Coppers would never look in there :-)
If I'm not pulling Toyota's out of the Bush, I'm pulling 12's in the Sig :-)
hmmm w like the idea of cracking it open and finding cash but it feels like a hard rubber end on it and harder sides so i think i will go with Blnls1's dampener idea. never seen one before

its in lay-man terms a gas monitor (enviromental gas emission monitoring device) not all cars got them, and heavely encased due to the fact it contains a small radioactive source that beams into the exhaust gasses and then monitors what gasses comes out of your car.then the information is wirelessly transmitted (hence it sometimes upset garage door signal or mobile phone) to the EPA for statistics.
i imagine only certain specific cars got this? or was it a random thing fitted?

yes, that must be it, the radiation thing
But on a positive note its a vibration dampener, that topic was covered about 2 years go here when a few of us changed exhausts for the first time onalloytecs and realised WTF is that
