Talking soon to be first v8 need info & help

hey guys and girls, I'm looking at getting a v8 ls1 buy easter and just need some info,

I'm looking at a Calais vyII or vz Calais i prefer a vz but just depends on the color if i can find it.

    my questions are

I'm looking at the km of 100xxx or under but if i find one with say 150xxx on it what sort of troubles will i in cure? [mechanical]

what will need to be replaced around 100xxx Kay's? IE suspension/water pump?

i see there are alot of extractors for sale around the 500 mark are they all the same with the v8s? IE []LS1 LS2 HSV Holden VT VX VY VZ V8 Extractors Headers SS - eBay Extractors, Exhausts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 01-Jan-10 10:42:34 AEDST)

will it be best to do the cats as-well? or they flow adequately as they are?

do the ls1 have a twin system standard? so no need to upgrade the exhaust?

is there anything i should look out for on the car? common faults?

lastly is the air intake good enough or do u rekon changing it ?

i have never had a v8 nor do i know much about them so any help will be greatly appreciated thanxs scott

LS1's are far better after a tune. Get yourself a mafless tune and otr, made all the difference to mine and well worth the money. You can replace the cats if you want but i'm still running the stock ones with hm shorties and a cat back and it's not restrictive. If you want to push for more power gains later then you can change them then.

I wouldn't mind knowing common faults on the V8's as well.......... I've been looking at VY V8's (general just possible change of car).

Dare I say it but I've half been considering a 2005 XR6 Turbo..... Atleast their a stock turbo, something to really play with to get some proper power.

I hate fords.......... interior sucks, and that gumb ford logo on the middle of the steering wheel is really offputting but u cant argue with power.

So for me my next car will either the a V8 Holden or a XR6 Turbo Ford.

I'd agree tho with Juzo........ mafless tune and otr

I have to say 2 months ago i was looking at either upgrading from the v6 ute to a 2006/2007 BF xr6 turbo sedan, or either a VY/VZ SS.

I ended up getting the VZ SS 3 weeks ago and i'm stoked with the v8 grunt. Drove a xr6 turbo and it just wasn't the same as a v8.

That's because the xr6t runs a Garret gt3540 with modified exhaust housing stock and their efficiency range is around 18psi.. I think stock they run at about 8psi so it actually becomes a slight restriction.
That's why it's so cheap to get power out of them! Originally they were faster than the xr8 so they had to detune them.
