Talking Clunking from rear in stop-go traffic

    hi guys

anyone help me with clunking noise from rear, when in slow stop /go traffic...or sometimes when selecting reverse from a car park etc.

Drives well...this is the only annoying thing car does.

Would be nice if easily fixed.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Try moving selector from R to D and back letting it take up each time. If it clunks each time could be a universal joint.

Check your trans fluid, I have a similar issue, apon taking my foot off the accelerator after slightly accelerating (first to second gear changes, or second to third) I get a nasty clunk, but I gotta top up my trans.

Don't worry this is a common problem with the diff. You can get the diff reconditioned but it will just end up clunking again anyway. If it really bothers you get a Kazz diff centre.

Sounds like the "cyclic diff clunk" common fault with VY's, there is a fix if you/they know what to do, curclips or something? I just live with mine.

I have that too on my VZ SS (170,000km though).

It's most definitely the diff backlash between your crownwheel and pinion.

Jack up the back off the car (both wheels off the ground) and put the handbrake on (wheels locked up) put the gearbox in neutral (make sure you chock the front wheels) and turn the driveshaft back and forth, if it has a lot of play, that's your diff backlash.

Give it a go, doesn't cost anything.

Angry Vz clunk in rear end

G;day I have a VZ wagon done 136000 ks, alarm go's off and there is a clunk in the rear end somewhere occasionally, also seems like something is sticking and hard to move at times until you give it a bit of juice, when selecting R to D It feels as though the car moves sideways/rocks a little bit, you can also see the engine do the same thing.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

I had my VZ wagon at Holden last week with that same issue. I have 120000km on it and they checked all linkages etc and everything was fine, but this is apparently a common issue with these models. It is out of warranty so it wasn't just bulls*** so they didnt have to fix it, the wallet was ready if needed! I would have it checked out if it gives you piece of mind, but don't be surprised if they tell you it is all ok.
