Dear SV6 owners,
Mods so far consist of:
K&N Filter
Removed the wing.
i am just wanting maybe a little feedback on what mods other people have done to there sv6's so far. * I have an Auto*
Some suggestions on what u find has been the most responsive out of the mods that you have done so far.
you can even maybe list of your current mods and how much roughly they cost, i am just not to sure of prices, plus i am kinda fairly new to the whole customising and modding my car.
i am a red p plater, but i wanna do something to this stock SV6 of mine..

here is a list of things people have done that are available..
2 Hole Mod + Filter bout $20 - $50 i reckon
Oil cooler/Tranny cooler $50
Cat back exhaust $200 +
Extractors + Cats $500+
VCM Tune $500+
Diff Gears $1000
Clutch Upgrade $1200
Raptor Pro street kit
Pro Flow Turbo Kit (new)
Life starts at 200km/h
Alright dude, my mods are as follows:
HID Xenon Headlights (495, recommend)
H3 Crystal Foggers (100, R)
18" Inch Rims (1800, r)
15% Side Tint, 10% Rear Tint (280, R)
Auto or Manual? If 6M, Short Shifter and Onyx Leather Knob (300, Definitely Recommend)
Custom Built Exhaust (700, 50/50)
SS Growler CAI (600, but u already have K and N)
VCM Suite Tune (1000, Dont Recommend-depends on tuner I guess)
Im looking at getting a Subbie in the back, Phreddy's gonna put all his work into it too soon.
I guess you could lower it, my driveway's real steep so I decided not to lower mine, but I think it would look sick especially as you're removed the wing already.
SS Flute Guards/Indicators. These are gonna cost me around 500 fitted but they look so so sick.
Cant think of anything else mate, honestly
Would a decent clutch seriously set you back $1200??
Also changing the headlights to the SS/Calais Headlights is a great looking mod..about $600 for a new set though..
WTB: VZ Chasers
The Blue One
manifold insulators to add to that list, cost me $200 delivered made a smallish difference but worth it for the price
and great for red p-platers haha impossible to see![]()
also, i got vented and slotted disks with soft compound brake pads, look great and stop even better
pedders sportsryder springs and new shocks also look awesome and help handling feel, but they're more functional than aesthetic, don't expect your car to be 2 mm off the ground, it will lower it an inch or so, for a nice clean look
for sure, $1200 is nearly cheap!
Performance Manifold is a very expensive Mod, not gaining all that much IMO. Although, at $1400 that isnt too bad, however $1900 Untuned is crazy for 15 kw
Cant get a Short shift kit for the VZ V6 6 Speed
VCM Tune is where a tuner gets into the cars computer and changes how the car "Operates" possibly gaining Power and torque.

oh and you can lower it, fairly cheap mod, car handles good as is, throw some lowered springs for cosmetics![]()

hmmm there is soo many things that need to be done really lol... just need the time and more importantly the cash to do that aye. the Performance Manifold sounds like a good idea to me.
A VCM Tune is pretty much hooking up the car to a computer, and having a tuner reprogram the Vehicle Control Module. This can optimise the vehicle's behaviour and performance by altering the many parameters that the VCM controls. It effectively increases the vehicle's ability to get maximum performance and efficiency.
A VCM Tune can adjust your engine and transmission to accomodate modifications including:
• Exhaust System
• Induction Modifications
• Camshaft Changes
• Fuel Injector Changes
• Transmission Modifications
• Rear Gear Changes
• Tyre Size Changes
It'll use anything, like RPM limits, torque control, and the like, and modify it.
With most cars its actually quite a worthwhile exercise, and a 6M VZ SV6 definitely reaps the benefits, especially in low-down torque (i.e. I can change into 6th at 55km/h and have a steady increase upto 100, as opposed to before when the car will choke and barely move.)
Each tuner will have different parameter changes so you will experience different results, it really comes down to whether you think the cost justifies the potential gains.
i think i wanna start with a exhaust, extractors, high flow cat and possibly if i can get roller rockers as well, then possibly get a performance manifold, does anyone know of decent places to get this around in sydney at all ?? any suggestions would be appreciated.
Where did you people from Melb get your alloytecs tuned? looking at getting my tunable one done soon!
cheers
sounds like a good start, google the Peformance manifold website, then email phil corbet i believe it is, he seems like a decent guy.
Castle Hill Exhaust seem to be the place to go they will hook you up with your exhaust and tune, possibly even cam upgrade if $$ isnt an issue lol

Raw666 do as he says, good advice! heard great things about castle hill exhausts, might have to travel up there to get my car tuned lol
It's ashame nobody makes a 'cheap' manifold supercharger ..... like the stock supercharged ecotechs.
If only we could all just wack on 4-6psi boost just by changing the manifold to a supercharger one and add the extra pully and belt.
"Then" alloytechs would be great fun.
Hands down if u want serious power........ Tranny Cooler, Supercharge, Tune........ then do exhaust etc. bout $6000-8000.
Gains of around 100kw at the wheels compared to like 20-30kw going down every other avenue spending similar cash.

2009 VE SS SILVER SEDAN - Twin Amps... Tune in progress (more for response and power) then outright KW on a dyno

G'Day,
With mine so far, I've done the 2 hole MCAI ($70) and fitted a BMC air filter element ($130), which has made a difference in bottom end pull, and helped with that sluggishness under 3000RPM. Plus it sounds nice too. Check the forum here for how to do that, 2 hours well spent. I'm estoimating I've probably gained a few Kw form that. Cosmetically I've also put Philips CrystalVision globes in ($80/pr), but I do do a lot of highway driving on country roads, so taht was a bit of a safety thing too. Plus it looks nice with that white/blue light...
Next, looking at RDA slotted front brake rotors and TWR pads (around $300), and trying to decide whta to do with the exhaust. Probably cat-back exhaust first ($400ish), then headers and cats ($1000). No point in doing headers and cats without cat back, otherwise too much backpressure.
Having spoken with the local VCM guy, he suggests that there's minimal gains from the VCM tune, and you get better response from the exhaust and intake. If you're keen to spend, Raptor do a great supercharger kit (also on the forums here), but you'll need to upgrade your trnasmission as well, and will definately need good quality sloted brakes all round if you plan to ever stop it....
Good luck!
I just love the way other motorists on the highway think it's an unmarked cop car.........
And Yes, it is a manual
Yeah mate,
I gained about 15kW power, nearly 50nM toqrue (332 to 381)
Cost me $1000, they had the car for about 6 hours, so wasn't as bad as some places, guess it depends on how busy they are.
When I had it done, I had the following:
-->SS Growler CAI
-->Custom Built Exhaust, CatBack 2.5
-->Mobil1 5W-30 Oil, just changed as well
-->BP Ultimate, nothing else.
The guy told me as well, that despite what is said, Shell Optimax does nothing to your car in terms of maintenance and improvements, unless its European, and for Holdens he is BP Ultimate and Mobil 8000 are the best.
Also, with the Alloytec's they chuck up Powertrain faults when you tune the computer, mine's did it like 5min down the road, took it back, and they updated those settings too, so maybe mention that to your tuner as well.
