Default VZ manual gear knob, removing the top plastic part???

    Hey guys,

I'm in the process of receiving a VE SV6 manual gear knob, now i need to remove the plastic silver part on top of knob. without breaking it. I'm fitting it to a VZ SV6, then i will have a full satin/black interior. I have failed before, so any tips to removing it without break all the clips and damaging the silver part too much would be greatfull

    cheers

I never knew u could remove it, then agiain i thought the VE SV6 knob was smaller than the VZ equivalent.
If so, i guess u use a small flat bladed screw driver & gently work it underneath the cover.

I was thinking of trying to get a smaller flat blade screw driver inside the gear knob and forcing it up from underneath. I just don't want to snap it in half like last time, its seems to be made of softer plastic then the previous models. Because i just snapped a few of the clips on the other gear knobs i was exchanging parts with. It will be quite a challenge...

Well i did it! , no black top to my gear knob now. I ended up cutting away the black rubber around the front, then there is screw. That i took that out, i then forced a smaller screwdriver through the whole and the centre of the gear knob comes apart. Finally its just a matter of removing the silver top away from the metal base, which is just a couple of clips. And there you go, a silver topped gear knob with the right H pattern. A bit of work, but i bet SV6 VE gear knobs will start appearing more regularly on ebay, Now the car has been out a while.
