What sort of kit are you looking at? How big is the radiator going to be? And the pump?

Im decking out the auto on the weekend so while Im at it im chucking one of these at it because the Acclaim cops it lately at track days and skidpan days and the like!

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER PWR COMMODORE VY VZ - eBay, Other Car Parts, Accessories, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 11-Feb-10 12:23:28 AEDST)

Ross is a nice bloke to deal with (he's from Ulladulla ...) and the kit is the best after market kit by far.

As it says in the description, the includes proper metal mounting brackets (most kits I saw used cable ties??) and everything needed except the removal tool for the lines, but we'll work out how to combat that on the weekend.

I'll let you know how it goes.

The hardest part is removing the connections at the steel pipe end.

    This may help you.
    Disconnecting transmission line.

The power steeing cooler does get in the way a bit so the kit that torquative was on about might be a good option.

Indeed the hardest bit is the one metal connector off one of the tranny lines. What I used was a really some strong small snippers (like tin snips but for cables).

Electus Distribution - snippers i used

Works brilliantly, takes a while but it is the easiest way.... just cutting it off.

** Tranny Cool = Well worth the money if u flog ur auto. Necessary component indeed. All my cars have tranny coolers, put one on my partners few months ago too. (just standard coolers no fan etc).

I take it that you realise there is already a transmission oil cooler fitted to your car. According to the 'gurus' at Holden, it is not necessary to fit an additional one even when performing continual towing. I don't agree with them though and also fit additional coolers to any car I purchase - that doesn't have one.

yeah the radiator does coolant and tranny........ but it's always better to add a tranny cooler to any car, helps keep ur gearbox alive.

I have had a problem when i give my SV6 A5 a hard time the temp goes up one notch on the gauge. I am guessing a tranny cooler would fix this problem as the radiator can then be used 100% for the engine? Also how much labor is involved $$$ wise at a mechanic to get it fitted?.

torana355.... you do know that the oil cooler is on the sides anyways? The main grille you see is the radiator for the coolant! By getting a transmission cooler it wont do anything for your coolant

Yes but the heat transfer (since the oil cooler and radiator are physically connected) from the coolant to the tranny fluid would make a difference i would say. If it didn't why would anyone bother with a separate oil cooler??

..... I'll stress one point, ALWAYS run your transmission through the radiator AND oil cooler........... never just run it just through the tranny cooler by itself...

well think about it.... the radiator has coolant running through it....... and it's big. a tranny cooler is small with no coolant.

running it through both will cool it alot better. running it just through a small cooler is 'not standard' and really untested weather a small tranny cooler could do the job on it's own.

It's 100% safer to keep the existing tranny cooling method (through the radiator) and just expand on that for 'additional cooling'.

If you read up on it, it's highly recommended to run them together then solely rely on a transmission cooler on it's own.

You could stuff your tranny otherwise.
