Hey guys,
Just been pulling out my hair over why my car is not starting (VZ ss Ute). The sound is coming from the starter motor maybe the solenoid. It sounds like a chattering sound. The engine doesnt even turn over. I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of this before and how to fix it. Also as a second question is the starter motor seperate to the solenoid on the LS1?
if the solenoid is stuffed nothing whatsoever will happen when u hit the key, because it's not 'kicking in' and supplying current to the starter. if i had to guess i would say the chattering sound is the pinion gear on the starter not properly engageing with the teeth on the flywheel/flexplate
Solenoid isnt seperate
sorta hard to tell without hearing it myself but if it is sorta clicking really fast sorta like a machine gun you could have a dead flat battery. if it is the solenoid there could be an open circuit in the secondary coil so it pulls in fine but it wont hold in. maybe if ya can try to make a vid of it so we can hear it.
my battery died the other day, sounded like a clicking/spark under the bonnet and on the dash when cranking the engine the highbeam dashlight flashes with the cranking..needless to say if yours is doing that it would be the battery.
