Hi,
I have not posted before so I hope I get it right. I have recently purchased a VZ Calais after I was involved in a MVA and my WH Statesman was written off.
I am concerned about the suspension of the VZ. The ride is very rough. I am told it has a sports suspension. Why anyone would put sports suspension on a Calais I don't know.
The car is a "By Design" and it has low profile tyers, and been lowered at the factory.
My question is how can I improve the suspension and have a more comfortable ride. I don't expect it to float along like the Statesman but a little more cushening I would like.
Unfortunately I was still in a lot of pain when my wife tested the car on purchase (and unfortunately she said it rode well as she likes sports suspension) so I accepted her at her word.
Can anyone help.
Regards

get rid of the low profiles a i would try..i can't see why it would be THAT rough from factory... still should be sitting fairly high. but yeah tyres/wheels prob cheaper then a complete suspension change over
Firstly do you know what the tyre/wheel specs are? stock size for the VZ calais are 235/45 R17.
Secondly, VZ Calais came out of the factory with sports suspension its called FE2. Did u buy the car second hand?

SS has FE2 standard and for me it was a boat. not rough at all. and that's with 18" low profiles.
Im happy with the FE2 in the SV6, corners very well, i did read that the SV6 is abit more agile than the SS due to the weight of the engine.

oh don't get me wrong, i regret taking it out. looks wise i don't like FE2..but the pedders i have in it now just abuses the car once u get off a highway! i'm expecting my head unit to jump out at me
Nah ur right mate, the only change i wanna make it just to lower the rear abit so the car sits level.
I hate the arse end sitting up high.
The Blue One
not all calais' have FE2 from the factory, mine certainly didn't. the shockers are generally stuffed tho - all 4 of mine were useless, even the new rear ones that holden replaced under warranty not even 3 months ago!!! the Boge's that i replaced them with are top notch![]()
i still regret removing the FE2's. i currently have Basic Teins and the car is rattling to bits. Tein have a comfort range for $3500+ a little out of my range but they are low and "take bumps like factory suspension"
The Blue One
the plate says std susp, same as the diff says std - i KNOW that the diff's not an LSD so I can only presume that if the susp was FE2 then it'd NOT say std...
Also on his comp plate it says STD for the suspension!
The Blue One
oh... well my springs and shockers were so rooted that i don't know what they were to begin with. the shortened shockers i put in recently sit a lot lower than the old ones so maybe... i dunno... just that FE2 springs and new shockers are a rougher ride than the stuffed stuff that was in there before
worst thing i ever did to my car was low profiles even with the factory suspension it made it rougher
