Further to my message today.
I just looked at my comp plate and it said it has std suspension. Am I correct in assuming that would mean the VZ Calais has Sports Suspension

calais should have fe2, which is "sports" by holdens terms which is what comes with ss aswell.
Sticking a Chev badge on any Commodore is like putting a Nissan badge on a VL
EOI....VE SS 18" wheels x4 with 5000k's on new tread, 2 of have very minimal gutter rash (previous owner) otherwise like new send me a pm if interested.
to clarify
Standard Equipment:
As for Berlina, plus: Alloytec 190 V6, 5 speed automatic transmission (on Alloytec 190 V6), Luxury / Sports suspension, Electronic Brake Assist (EBA) (on Alloytec 190 V6 only), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) including traction control (on Alloytec 190 V6 only), 17x8 inch alloy wheels, sports leather steering wheel, dual zone electronic climate control.
Optional Equipment:
235 kW V8 (until 31/12/05, then 260kW 6.0L V8 from 1/1/06), FE2 Sports Suspension, Satellite navigation.
The VY II and VZ Calais had a special suspension tune in between the standard Exec/Berlina setting and the FE 2 setup, which was actually called FE 1.5 from the factory. It comprises slightly stiffer and lower springs and shocks and re-rated sway bars.
At the time of its release, the VYII Calais was said to be a very good compromise, having much better and flatter handling than the standard suspension, without the harshness of the FE 2 setup.
Personally I think the FE2 suspension is damn awesome myself. The only flaw is has is in the wet the tilty wheels on the front has less grip........ as the wheels tilt when u go around a corner which on a flat road = less tire contact to the road for the front wheels.

my compliance plate says std but it had FE2's
Quite possible if you are not the original owner. Remember that the plate only shows the car as it was specified at the time it left the factory. Owners can ask the dealer to alter the car prior to delivery, or owners can change the car to suit themselves as many of us do.
my car was ex gov im the second owner, it was used to transport gov officials from brisbane airport (did my research before purchasing). somehow i dont think they would of asked for FE2's but i guess i cant speak for them(unless of course the dealership requested it and it was bought from a car yard as the first of a fleet)
I'm not doubting you, but how are you sure it's fitted with FE 2? The only way would be to check the spring codes on the label on the spring, if they are still legible, and the part numbers on the shocks. FE 1.5 sat lower than standard suspension and was slightly firmer, but unless you checked the parts as stated, how would you know what the car has?
Had the carline shop whom did my suspension look into it for resale reasons, they phoned holden with the part numbers ect ect, turned out the suspension was well past it so i decided to chuck it rather than reselling it and ripping sum poor bastard off...and the bloke from the dealership also told me that it had FE2 suspension when i bought it(didnt really believe anything he told me about the car neways) might even still have the piece of paper with all the specifications that they hang in the window when selling, but at the same time i might not will have a look
