if your aiming for an SV6 or a Berlina I reckon uve got no chance of getting one with reasonable K's on it, an Acclaim maybe, but if you really wanted you could get a very nice VY for 15, theres a few floating around with low K's on them, so i think u might be better off going that way, just make sure you look around for a while and get an idea of what they"re going for, I picked my VY S-Pack up for $10,700 but that was an absolute steal and knew the dealer, you could get a decent one for around 13k and an amazing one with all the bells and whistles for 15k....again..ude be getting a sub-par VZ if u paid 15k more than likely

depends where your located i guess, in nsw you'd be able to easily get a vz acclaim etc for under that. my sister brought a little while ago a vz acclaim,90 000kms etc from a holden dealership for $13,000. that was sticker price, has no idea on bargining.
for $15,000, you could probably get a ve omega for that,i seen a ve berlina yesterday at a car yard for $19,990,had full leather, around the 90 000 km mark, was in great condition

Easy, go to your nearest motor auctions and look for ex-fleet cars, found my VZ for 16,000. I don't see why you could'nt find a sedan any cheaper.

problem with ex-fleet cars is they often have higher K's on them than normal cars as they"ve been used by many people, also I know several companies that do it and people treat those cars like shit because they arent their own car, unless it has a full service history, motor auctions are a dangerous way to go. a friend of mine bought a BF Falcon (i know hes a fool) at a motor auction, got it cheap he thought, next couple of weeks his clutch was fu**** n several other things have failed on it since. you"re better off buying from a dealer (if you have the dosh to pay a little extra for peace of mind) or buy privately, ask your friends and your friends-friends if they know anybody selling a commodore, i guarantee you somebody will, its how I wound up with my car, you just have to ask every single person you know lol but do it this way and you will get a good buy

Obviously your friend did'nt do the research. Inspect the car at least 1 week before the auction, ask for a full service report, Fowles Motor Auctions provides a very accurate and in depth report on each vehicle. Try to locate country-cars, as they will have had a better life in terms of door-dings, start-stop driving and rim scratches.

I've had all of this experience in the period that I was looking for my first car. Every private seller and dealer tried to screw me, and the only place i could find a car that was bias-free was at a motor auction. My ute is perfect and has not had any problems at 125,000ks.

I'm not trying to say that motor auctions are the only way to go, I'm just saying, do your research and you'll find that one in a million car.

    Hey Matt,
You have a good chance of picking up a VZ Berlina for around $15k. It's just all about patience. It took me about 2 months to find mine and I picked mine up for $15k with only 83,000 on the clock. Also it was from a dealer, but I had to drive 2.5 hours to get it, but it was worth it. Also don't just look at ones in your area because sometimes you can save a few $$$ by traveling a bit.

VZ Exec, the earlier models are only worth 9-10k now, thats bottom dollar so i'd say acclaim easy.

Easy. Guy at my office bought a VY Berlina for $10,000 plus he traded his VT Exec for $5000. So $15,000 all up from a dealer. In WA.

For an SV6 you'll be looking at over 100,000km. for a Berlina under 100,000km. Once again, depends on which state. Also remember. Must because the sellers wants $16,500 for his SV6 doesn't mean he wont accept $15,000.

I did a national search. Click here

thats because, the more you add to a car e.g non stock, the more value is taken away.

I picked up an immaculate 2005 VZ SV8 for $14800. You just need to find someone who knows little about cars .

I paid $15,800 for my VZ SV6 with 135,000kms on the Clock. Prestine condition inside and out. And I just picked up my new VZ Acclaim for $12,400 with 116,000km on the clock. Same condition. Both with good log book history and a very helpful dealer.

My advice - have an RACQ Mastercheck done before purchase. Yeah it may cost you $180, but they give you a great idea if there are any issues with the car, and I was forthcoming with the dealer and showed the reports, which they were more than happy to fix what ever was found without question before purchase. They also appreciate the reports to know what sort of condition the cars are that they are buying too.

When I was looking around, I checked out an Auction centre, which had two VZ's (An Equipe and an Executive), both under $10,000. Bucket load of km's on both of them, and one had a Airbag fault warning on startup, which the salesman couldn't care less about. This auction centre sells the car on behalf of the owner, so there is no option to screw them down on the price, as the auction centre has already done that to the seller. They will not organise a RACQ Inspection, and you pretty much buy the car as is. The Warranty is pretty ordinary as well, as mine both had 5,000km or 3 month Warranty if there were any issues located within that time.

Police auctions - As I have said in a previous post, I have pulled enough people out of the back of police vehicles that have been covered in blood, vomit and any other bodily fluids you can think of, and no matter how hard you try to clean it, its always going to be there. D Cars would be my choice, for one being that they are not all white, and secondly, they wouldn't get as much of a workout compared to a generals unit. All are serviced well.

I just set a limit on which I could afford to spend, and kept checking the websites and looking through any car yards in the area keeping to these specifics.
Hope this gives you some ideas on whats out there.

When I was shopping for my VZ SV6 I saw a bunch of them at around the $15 mark, but just about all of them had 100,000km plus.

In regards to what VZSV6 above me said about cop cars, aside from the mystery fluids in the car, the cops FANG their cars.

If you have ever been pulled over by a cop, they really floor it to catch up with you. Hard acceleration, hard braking and the occasional going up a gutter. You dont want their cars.

Just thinking about the mystery fluids a little more.. imagine all the homeless bums they have had in their backseat?
