my 05 vz sv6 with 109 000kms is using alot of fuel. THE average fuel consujmption for my last tank was 14.5 L to the 100 and i was driving like a granny . I got 425kms out of 61litres so that says it is 14.11 L actual fuel consumption.
HOw do i fix this?>
Are you doing mainly city driving or highway driving etc etc? My VZ wagon uses around 14L/100 in the city (112 500km on the clock) and it isn't until I start hitting freeways and motorways that it starts to drop to anything respectble. The average I get for combined driving is usually around the 12-13L mark. I don't drive it hard at all either! My LS1 V8 VX uses less fuel around the city than my wagon!

I would start with the injectors and plugs, i found that when i changed my plugs (85000Km) fuel consumption fropped bout 1L/100km. Maybe Remove the injectors and get them flushed out.
Possiblly get the car flushed out. Oil and Fuel. Or check your driving. If its a manual its a bit easier to control the fuel consumption.
Life starts at 200km/h
Are they short, stop/start trips? Less than 8ks.

ur not alone paul, sometimes my vz even jumps to 16L per 100. i just had sparks, oil, filter, fuel filter all changed. down to 14.5L p 100, but when i jump onto the m2 or m7, goes down to 8.5-9L per 100

my driving is a comviantion of everything but is very light on, i did the 105 thou km service myself, and havent changed plugs yet, or fuel filter .
Should i do both those aswell as run some injector cleaner through it?
yeh i would recommend it mate, youd be suprised. crap could stick in between ur fuel filter and it wouldnt be getting injected properly and obviously if your spark plugs are dirty then more fuel is going to be used to compensate. there a small price to pay, but could make a major difference

Alright will get that sorted tomorrow , what else coud i try
tire pressures are all sweet , only mod is the 2 hole mod but only did that this afternoon.
That's really high, all the figures here. On the highway i get down to 6.5L/100Km (in 6th cruising at 110Km/h), and aroudn town never gets about 13 AT MOST. Most combined si between 10-11 per tank. I've fitted a 2 hole MCAI and a BMC filter, better airflow = better efficiency. Maybe coz mine is a manual that helps, but i tend to hammer it a bit....?
I just love the way other motorists on the highway think it's an unmarked cop car.........
And Yes, it is a manual
wow 6.5 that awesome
well usually i drive a bit harder
but i tested on this tank and my consumption was 14.11 l/100 and i was driving very grannyish
something's not right
grab yourself a high flow filter (K&N, BMC etc), that'll help start for just over $100, plus you'll never need a new filter

my economy around town is not the best but got it down to 7.6l/100 on a trip up north recently. i'm getting a service in acouple of weeks and getting all the plugs etc changed so i'll be interested to compare my next trip up north at easter

hmm.. for an auto stock wagon, im getting the same freeway figures as you, but my around town figures are high 10's & low 11's & that's a bit of both thrashing with the a/c on or thrashing without a/c. occasionally ill drive gently. No engine mods on my car either, complete stock.
dirty MAF possibly?
"And i gave that man directions, even though i didn't even know the way; because thats the kinda guy i am today"
how do i clean maf?
I get about 7L/100km on highway, but if im city driving it can be shocking, like 14-15km, its a SV6 manual BTW.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned OXYGEN SENSORS.
The engine management system uses four wideband exhaust gas oxygen sensors to constantly monitor and adjust the fuel delivery system. If even one of these becomes weak (and they do after about 100,000km), your economy will suffer in a big way.
Injected CNG, LNG & LPG: The only way to go better!
14's for a 6 is definetely not normal, unless your a thrashing the crap out of it. I get mid 13's in my V8 Calais, all stop-start driving, and not being afraid of the loud pedal either!
14ltr per 100 isn't that bad..... minor stuff will help, plugs, fuel filter, new engine oil........
if ur serious about improving economy, 2 hole mod & get it professionally tuned.
