Hi everyone.
I'm still in the market for a sv6, been hunting for a while.
I'm just wondering if it's in any way possible to wind back the K's on VZ's?
Be it change or ecu, cluster, whatever.
All help is much appreciated.
Cheers, Ryan.
You can, Im sure otehrs will fill you in on how, but why?
Pretty sure its illegal to wind back k's
You cant.
And if there were a way I wouldnt tell ya anyway becayse Mikes right. Its illegal.
you can, as stated when you put another cluster in you get the KM reading from that cluster as the readout is stored in the cluster and not in the car.
But its illegal to adjust the kays as they give the readout on how far the cars travelled. If you do and come unstuck (and there's ways for that to happen) its your own fault![]()
Just drive in reverse for a while![]()

But then again I could be wrong.......
is that true? i heard a few friends telling me that if you drive in a reverse your k's go down. i thought they were cracking a joke?

they were, you cannot lower the amount of k's on a car by driving around in reverse. In a level 1 or 2 cluster you can manually wind them back, though why you would (because its wrong!) , unless you changed clusters is beyond me.
haha true true. ive done 140 000 on mine but i wouldnt mind it back, cause i need to know for my own knowledge

Well the WL cluster ive got had 141000 on it from the car it came out of but my car had only done 54985 at the time of the swap ova.
When Greg (phreddy) changed over my cluster, all he did was on my SV6 cluster remove the chip open the chip file as a text file then copy the lines of text, saved it, then did the same with the WL cluster & copied the saved lines into the WL one.

lol I thought of Ferris Buellers day off too.
To clear it up the kays saved on a particular cluster can be modified, but as far as Im aware its only Phreddy who can do it.
Holden cant, Tech 2 is limited in that once a dash cluster has reached 100km their locked in, so up to and including 99 they can program it to say whatever but once its reached 100 its locked.
Greg is the only one with the tools outside of VDO who can do it, and as mentioned its a fairly intense procedure requiring microchips to be removed, written and soldered back in.
I'm not looking at winding back the K's.. I just found an awesome sv6 for sale and it had extremely low K's for the price so wanted to know if there's any chance it's dodgy.
I don't think its possible to do it and as others have said its highly illegal.
So just check it out and get a mechanic to give a second opinion if your that worried.

any electronics engineer with the right ideas and a chip burner can do it, simply put all you do is change the data on the eeprom that controls the odometer reading

See my ride here
yeh just swapping a cluster would be far easier and they go cheap enough on eBay
As mentioned, get someone to check it out. At the end of the day general wear and tear on a car shows up if you know what your looking for
Andy, thats true BUT its funny how when you want the kays adjusted on a second hand cluster, like in my case they needed to go UP quite a bit all of a sudden "no one knows how to do it"
If your really worried about the KM check the log books? Make sure servicing is genuine, maybe give rego to Holden, see what there last service record of that vehicle was might give you a beter idea. Or if its an X-fleet car, mayb contact the leasing company for service records?
^^^Thats lower than mine when i got it! mine had 40690km.

how much did he want for it? thats rreally low!! what year etc?

As an aside, I have a VZ Berlina dash with 94,000kms on it (from memory) for sale for $350 if anyone is interested.
This pic is of someone elses, but it looks identical to the one I'm selling. It'll be in my sale thread before long.
