hi guys, im looking for a new car, im debating on a VX-VT supercharged V6 or VZ V6 (175kw version)
what do u guys think of the VZ, it there any comon problems or anything i should know? are they a good engine compared to Eco-tech?
cheers guys,
I've driven both and i would rather the VZ
i find anything with an ecotec agricultural, alloytec is so much smoother nicer sounding and more refined than an ecotec

The VZ feels much more free revving and hell of a lot smoother.

Unless you have a specific reason as to why you would want a VX, a VZ is a no-brainer.
more advanced engine: yes. without its problems: no.
The only real problems with them are thier inherent ability to kill timing belts, and the fact that thier aftermarket is no-where near the eco's, and the eco will be cheaper to maintain. Plus VY/VZ's just look like thier trying to hard (they is ugly!!!), but then i'm biased![]()
I reckon the VY/VZ looks pretty sleek and classy IMO, obviously once again im biased lol. but i reckon they have nice lines and the vx/vt shape looks a bit outdated. now the VE that is trying a bit too hard...personally i like the VE's look but it is a bit much.
Engine-wise...i got no clue in the difference, never driven a 175kw alloytec or a charged vt/vx
...... my bad should've said chain. Also forgot to say that they are a POS!
I haven't driven a VZ, but the VE's I have driven were hunks of junk, and I'm glad i didn't buy one.
It's really upto you but if you want to chase power at some stage than get something with an L67 in it, because word on the street is the alloytec won't keep up.

Hey guys,
thanks for the replys, really helps with the decision making
im also after a little bit of oomph aswell, a bit of power but not a v8, thats y im debating on a VX supercharged V6 or the VZ aloytech V6, what do they compare to each other? which is quicker?
i know the VZ has 175kw and a supercharged VT-VX has 171kw but i ve heard the Super6 is still quicker,
IMO i love the look of the VZ exec slammed on 15X7 interceptors, i have a real soft spot for em![]()
dont every buy a subaru, they have noisiest a/c compressors in the world
ecotecs run out of puff up top and sound strainded to make the power they do,
alloytec builds its peak torque moderatly low and holds it consistant all the way though to the rev range, so while the torque stays even, the power up top kicks in so you feel that bit of a rush as its building the revs,
the electric throttle lets them doen most and takes a while to lean how to drive it, ecotec goes 100% it goes for max power, but alloytec senses full throttle, looks at load, then applies requied amount of throttle to produce the torque it puts out, youll learn jumping on the throttle makes them crawl but if you learn to progressivly apply the throttle, they go better

? the VZ sounds like its a very different car to drive from others, sounds kinda hard to get power in a wierd way..lol
VY ecotec, holden seemed to get it right with the VY.
VZ dont get huge amounts of power unless u rev the nuts off em.

These ecotec vs alloytec threads drive me nuts. While they make for good reading, its of course horses for courses. I agree with what everyone is saying mostly, but i dont find the ecotec that much worse off than an alloytec. Of course the newer engine is alot higher spec, but in the driving, who redlines their car everyday? I certainly dont. They arent that much different in fuel economy, and ive found the ecotec a bit easier to drive in everyday driving. Heck they even sound similar. Seems only the starter motor sounds different lol. I do find the ecotec does get thrashy up top, but the point of thrashing it everyday is 0.
But seriously, it took me a few months to find my car a VY2 Berlina V6, I couldnt justify the extra few grand for the VZ Berlina. I didnt want an exec.
lol, you have a vr (possibley one of the ugliest models of all commodores) and you call the VY/VZ models ugly, somebody should take your crack pipe away! (but then im bias'd) haha.
My mate has a VZ SV6 and I have a VY S pack and we swap driving cars from time to time if we"re drivin to the same place just for kicks n its good fun to drive something new for a change, he claims my acceleration isnt any where as near as responsive as his but i dont really notice, both are great cars in my opinion and unless your looking to do insane times on the 1/4 mile i dont think a tiny ammount of power difference will effect you, i find that its the aesthetics of a car that sell itself not which is why I got an S pack..wanted something sporty, i could quite easily have got a VZ or even VE entry model but didnt want something bland just for the sake of saying it was new...but yes...theres my part...enjoy!

i had a vy s2 acclaim and recently sold that and now i have bought a vz berlina in my opinion the vz is a lot more smoother to drive and sounds a lot more cleaner when revving high but the overall difference between the both is very minor the fuel was about the same and everything was pretty much the same but yes i do prefer the vz... and imo the style and design of the vy and vz is a class above the vt-vx i personally do not like the look of them but love the look of the vy-vz but thats only my opinion

Don't forget the supercharged ecotec has 171KW and around 370NM of torque which was made at I think under 3000 RPM and continued into the revs a fair way add a set of 1.9/1.95 mixed ratio roller rockers to it you'll have a bit of a beast with power down low and up top.
spend a little more and go the alloytec 190. i had a vt with chip and exhaust and it was quick but when i brought my calais i got them both in a straight line with me in the vt and my missus in the vz and the vz pulled a good 50m over about 300m. since ive put on a dual 2.5 inch and done the 2 hole mod and gained more response and would leave the vt for dead. hope this helps
