If you have a belt that squeaks or squeals then if could be caused by a couple of things - most often a stuffed belt, or not so often a damaged pulley (bearings usually).
A quick way to tell how bad the problem is, is to liberally squirt the BELT ONLY with silicone spray while the engine is running. Spray onto the top (flat) side of the belt and try to avoid getting any on the pulleys. This will tell you very quickly whether it is the belt only or whether there are other problems too...
If the squeaking is still there after the belt has been sprayed, try spraying the pulleys one at a time, starting with the 2 small-ish idler pulleys in the centre of the engine. Once you figure out which one is causing the noise then it can be replaced.
See I have this same problem but replacing the belt 3 times has done nothing. However when I squirt a silicon spray just onto the belt the problem goes away, and then promptly comes back the next day. It's gotten to the point where, just to get some peace and quiet, I've covered the whole belt in Armorall and that shuts it up for weeks.
Does Armorall work on a wife like that ????![]()

If you have fitted an U/D pulley to your car the A/C belt is also prone to squeal.
2 of the fixes for this is use a slightly smaller belt, or replace the belts with the bosch brand and bobs your uncle!
You are so correct. Nearly all of the "solutions" I have seen on this site for the belt noise involve lubrication of the belt in one form or another such as we have above - including ArmorAll and like substances.
I would much rather the belt noise than produce a slipping serpentine belt.
mine was doing this for a while, used wd40 did its bit here & there but i just got over buyin it all the time
after a while it simply dissapeared, just live with it for a week or 2 & mine was fine
When in the chicken coup, if i wanna get lucky, i get clucky clucky
