    Default Non-Standard VZ Coolant Cap?

I've been meaning to replace my coolant cap for weeks because I noticed my engine temp is steady on 100 all the time....... which seems high, my dad's 05 exec runs like 86-90 avg.

Anyway..... I went to autobarn, got one....... didn't fit (looked the same on the top but bottom was different) ......... took it back, went to Repco... 3 diff brands, all the same design. The VZ Exec and the 190's have the same design, just different spring strength/pressure.

Got the guys to come have a look at mine........ they aint never seen one like it. Had a gander at my dads last night his is the same as the aftermarket caps (his being a 05 VZ Exec)

Does anyone else have a 06 VZ of some sort that doesn't take the aftermarket coolant caps? I'm probably gunna have to goto holden now.

I'll take a picture of it if I get chance.

95-100 is pretty average for an alloytec motor... they also run a bit hotter and a bit higher pressure than the ecotecs and buick motors.

The Holden cap is cheap enough and it fits. Most VZ v6's will have the spring loaded cap. It's the late VZ's that have the cap without the spring on.

i think it may have superseeded to one or the other anyway because I got asked the question which one, then he said "oh doesnt matter" and but I didnt catch what he was saying beyond that, I just wanted a replacement cap so I could get home.

no the machining in the housing is different too, its essentually to allow the cooling system do its normal thing, but works different

as i said i didnt catch what he was carrying on with after that so maybe that was it. The cap that was in it come out of Andrews '04 Calais (we swapped them when his shat itself before our trip to Melb) and I think mine had been replaced before anyway.
