just wondering how many people have had issues with the timing chains stretching or noisy valve train of some description

had a timing chain tensioner broken.. caused a tapping which increased with Revs. $1100 got it fixed and car back on road
Life starts at 200km/h
Just an update, pulled front off engine and so far have found idler gears on the timing chain have way too mutch play and lower timing chain has a bit of wear
rough price from GMH is $1400 plus parts
yer my cars doin it now got a mad rattle when cruseing at around 2-3k getting it fixed next week i think
nearly there, assembled it this morning fired i up running like a clock.
only thing now is I hace chek powertrain coming up with no trouble codes (next thing to fix lol)
BTW I replaced nearly everything in the timing chain area approx $700 in parts alone (3 chains $280, 2 idler gears $160, gaskets $130, lower tensioner due to slight wear $60, plus coolant, oil, and gasket sealer)
I think that's all of it now just re-seated some of the connectors I had disconnected and all is well now hopefully back to normal now
great!!!! (didn't work still there)

seems like a big operation hope mine doesnt get that bad..any ideas to prevent it or will it just occur?
how many km have the motors done??
mine started around the 75000 mark
I bought the car with around 19000 and had it regularly serviced since I had it and now for the hard bit of seeing if holden will do anything about since
1. no one of their mechanics had noticed any sign of metal filings in the oil when it was serviced (about 18months out of warranty)
2. I had reported it at 75000 service (the sservice department looking for the wrong noise)
3. had it back there 2 months later (finally got someone to admit that they had never heard the noise only to say they think it may be timing chains)

Well tht's all sorted now, went back over things and found I missed plugging in the map sensor on the inlet manifold at the back.
LOL!! (one connector)
Runs like a charm now no alarms either
Was it a hard job to do ? I been told ya need a tool to lock the cams to stop them turnin on ya as mine needs a chain now ? done 110 thou and done a water pump at 98 and all the bushes and struts in the front end have been replaced not real happy with the vz wishin I got a vy now.
When you are told the timing chains are stretched it may not b the case as with mine I was told it MAY be timing chain noise. however when I pulled it down the chains appeared fine and it was worn idler or intermediate gears on the timing chains. this may be why they say to replace them as a set (to cover the fact that there may be some sort of flaw with the setup).
I wnder how many peopl have been told it is chains whe it i actually the intermediate gear?
I've got a feeling mines about to go. It's down on power and pretty noisy at idle. Might see if I can tackle it myself.
I must be one of the lucky one's (until now), i have an 06 Executive (Taxi) that has clocked up 340,000ks. Replaced Two water pumps, two radiators, numerous oil pressure sensors which all seems standard in these models. Lately she's rattling very loudly at idle but seems to settle down some under a bit of a load. Mechanics cant or wont find/commit themselves to finding the problam without the expensive process of elimination. Anyone have more experiance/information than these jokers?
Id say its the timing chain on its way at first they only do it at idel and as ya pick the revs up it will pull the chain a bit tighter and wont rattle but after a wile the rattle will stay the only ather thing to check is if the harmonic balancer is on tight as the one on mine was not tight and after a wile it lets the bottom gear float in and out and that rattles on the timing cover aswell.
