Hi guys, not too long ago i got done for driving with my foglights on and got a $170 odd fine *ouch* anywho i like driving with the most light possible and was wondering if anyone knew how to set up the foglights as spotlights so that they come on when i turn my high beams on?
Well, you should'nt drive with your high beams on in an urban environment anyway. Thats what the street lights are for. You don't need fog lights in the city, just asking for trouble.
Can't you pull the light switch out to turn the fog lights on? Mine does'nt have them.
He was driving with FOG LIGHTS on not high beams, he had an idea though to set it up so whenever you high beam your fog lights come on, which is a great idea that they should do already if you ask me.. but holden didn't see that necessary..
He's just trying to save the step of high beam + pulling out the fog light switch, making it a bit easier and practical.. it can be done mate just take it to any auto elec place that deals with stereo systems and all that sort of gadgets, over here we have a place called Kirkys Kustoms that does that.

He'd still get done if he fitted the driving lamps because they're not factory fitted.
but in saying that holden market the ones you already have as driving lamps
as paulsv6 said, there is no point in having the ones you've got come on with high beam because if you hit fog and switch them on you'll blind yourself.

When I had the VZ I did just that - wired in a relay under the bonnet so that when the driving lights came on the fog lights came on too. A change of bulb in the fog lights gave good light in a wide spread. It made them useless as fog lights, but I never thought they were real good for that anyway, and we get a LOT of fog in winter here.
Worked for me, but thats also country driving, not city stuff, and on my trip to work it's not unusual to see roo's, wombats and a lot of rabbits and foxes, so while the high beam was good at a distance, it did leave a bit of a darker patch closer to the car and off to the sides,. This mod fixed it, at least for me, but I did remove the relay & drop the original globes back in before I sold the car.

yeh theres often confusion about "driving lights" and "fog lights"
the fog lights on the VZ are fairly useless anyway, cop any decent fog like through mountains, and their pointless. Go back to the VX, thats when you find a semi decent fog light.
cheers guys. like everyone has said yes this is for highway/out of town driving. MySv6 you couldnt tell me how to install a relay like you did if you remember could you? and also what bulbs you put it?
Bulbs - 100W, but it was done when the bumper came off, and I made an off-handed comment to the mechanic - how about we throw 100 Watt globes in there, so he did lol
The setup actually used 2 relays - I found the fog light wire and cut it, adding the light side of the wire to one side of a relay. The other side went to 12V via a 25A fuse. The wire from the car went to the coil & the other side of the coil to earth. That way turning on the fog lights activated the relay and drew power from an alternative source via the 25A fuse to the globes.
The second relay had the same 25A fuse supplying one side of the contact, and the other side went to the same light wire. One side of the coil was earthed, and the other was joined to the wire connected to one of the driving light or high beam wires, so activating the high beams activated relay 2, making the fog lights operate.
The reason I did it this way was only that I was not sure is the original wiring loom & setup for the fog lights was designed for 15+ amps which the 2*100W globes drew, so the relay seemed a safer option. Also operating the original fog light switch OR high beam caused 1 of the 2 relays to operate & turn on the lights. Because I used a base for each relay, the high beam one could be unplugged, rendering it not working & returning the car to stock operation.
Oh and if you look about relays are cheap & you might be lucky and be able to fit the additional relays in the relay/fuse box under the bonnet too![]()

$170 thats a joke, i got pulled over for them, thank god they didnt fine god knows wat i woulda sed
but they are useless in fog but make driving so much easier of a night
When in the chicken coup, if i wanna get lucky, i get clucky clucky
can u have your fog lights on at night? i reckon they look sik turned on even when its day
With the introduction of the Australian Road Rules, I'm sure it is pretty consistent across all State/Territories.
In short ............. "Fog lights may only be used in situations with limited vision (fog, rain, smoke). You must turn fog lights off once conditions improve."
Source - NSW RTA Learner Driver Log Book (my son's old book was laying around).
Just wondering, how do the foglights on the vz sv6 work? Do they come on automatically or is there a way of turning them off/on?
the light switch pulls out, which turns the foggies on
the headlight switch pops out to have them on and back in to turn them on.
just grab it and pull it out!
lol thanks guys, how stupid of me![]()
haha i wondered the same thing for days when i got the berlina.. glad i wasnt the only 1 lol
