hey guys. i'm getting a new exhaust system for my calais. just getting the pipes to start, then getting headers/extractors and high flo cats when the funds are there.

any ideas as to wat system i should get???

IMO and the opinion of Manta over here, the best system for the 190 is a twin 2 1/4" into single 3". Good increase in torque across the revs and good increase in top end. Not loud though, but it improves performance. I do this system for $485 shipped.

When you say not loud do you mean close to stock??

At what point would the piping go from 2 1/4 into the 3"?

No, not close to stock, it is deeper and more throaty, but not as loud as every other Commodore with a sports system.

It goes 2 1/4" off the flanges on the engine pipes, into two 2 1/4" straight through 10" long mufflers, then behind them it goes into a 3" single, then into a 3" in - twin 2 1/4" out rear resonator.

Ok im a little interested in this now. Do you have any dyno figures to show before and after? Also does that include extractors?

I heard that the 190 alloytec needs its pressure at the back...that could perhaps be why?

I'm also looking at upgrading my sv6 and have looked at sooo many different options gah

anybody know of just a good nice system to get done for under $1000? Want a nice bottom end and want it to have a nice deep tone ...but not stupidly loud...just nice. so far i've heard the twin 2 1/4 redback system coming up a lot..

    anybody help??

that sounds exactly like what I want! but im in Brisbane, would you recommend gettin headers done as well? Honustly, I just want my commodore to sound like a commodore, I hate not being able to hear it with the stock 06 SV6!

if you want good bottom end go NO bigger than 2 1/4" either custom made from good exhaust shop or off the shelf one. I went custom and full stainless steel and cost me $1500 but ive also got 10 warranty with it. If you go bigger than 2 1/4" then you'll loose bottom end but gain in top end, while you'll gain everywhere with the 2 1/4".

Mine from cats back is dual 2 1/4" through to mufflers and contiues to 2x3" resonators into dual 3" tips

I don't have any before and after dyno figures, but one car I did got 192.9 rwhp on a very sad dyno with just the system and a K&N filter.

Extractors will increase bottom end and acceleration. But just the system will give you a good improvement.

Alloytecs like to breathe, the comment about them liking pressure isn't correct. Going smaller in the tail pipes keeps the exhaust velocity up as the gases cool and take up less space. But starting with 2 1/2" is too big anyway.

Charterboat69, I would recommend getting extractors only if it is performance you are after. The system will give you a good improvement on it's own, but extractors will increase mid to top end. Fitting hi flow cats will help too. With extractors and cats you would be up around $1650, but the extractors and cats are stainless. It is all bolt on and still retains all 4 O2 sensor fittings.

well with the alloytec liking to breathe. i'm getting a growler CAI in a month. that should help with that. my mates sv6 with the 2 1/2" redback pipes has noticed a big difference in performance. even off the mark he has noticed a difference. but yeah, if mine fails me i can always add a rear resonator to it for more back pressure. when its done i'll post some video's of sounds and get a dyno run on it for the stats....

I just got my catback exhaust not long ago for $50. It's a single 2.5in with no rear muffler and I have noticed some high end power gains. It also sounds like magic and burbles on downshifts really nice. Also gives a big 'bang' when changing gears from full throttle. But its probably the manual transmission that tops the sound off.

Not bad for $50 fitted. Not sure what brand it is.
