This is an update on my 175 Alloy Tech Engine noise problem, Holden have decided the only way to fix the problem and shut me up is to throw a new 175 Alloy Tech long motor in my brand new storm ute.
This is happening next week, still have had no explaination on fault, other than to say I am not an isolated case.It reminds me of the early Gen 3 days, piston slap and so on. May mum always said don't by the first of a new series, thought I was safe waiting till May 2005. So beware anyone thinking of going down the 175 route, still cannot believe these blokes cannot get it right, and yes my fuel gauge is crap too, awaiting recall for software update. Some quality control going on!need guide dogs or get jobs as linesmen for footy.
Missed your earlier posts. What noises etc led up to your engine replacement please?
A rattle, come knocking noise from the front of the motor while driving around the 2000rpm range. Only happens in driving mode, not just sitting in neutral and reving to 2000rpm. Initially seemed more prevalent when cold but will make sound at any stage at the 2000rpm range under load at any time. My wife drove the car first and picked it up straight away and she is no mechanic.Originally Posted by old mans ute

geez well i would hope in this case it is something internal in the motor, i would be fairly worried if my holden dealer couldn't find a fault like a heat sheild and was going to replace the motor to fix it!
HAH!
Since when do the mechanics at the dealerships know anything Sammy???
I've only had the 3,000 done on my VZ done at the local dealer (just about to go in for the 15K), but with my previous cars (VS wagon then VT S) each time I took it to Holden to get serviced (three different yards!!!), I had to take it back the next day so they could fix something they screwed up. (one time in the wagon, I had to take it back THREE TIMES before they got it right!!)

I reckon I might get the 15K done at the dealer, but from then on I'll go see the guy who used to do my VT. Perfect job every time, and it actually felt like it had been serviced.
The dealership doesn't need to make money from service - they make money on new cars, so they don't give a stuff if a customer isn't happy with the service. The bloke who runs his own workshop depends entirely on keeping his customers happy by doing a good job, and so in the majority of cases he actually does.

i don't have a choice where to take my car as its a managed lease and the lease provider users the dealers only to service the cars .... if i had my way i'd be doing it myself ..... the time and effort required to do the service yourself compared to taking the car into the dealer etc for me is well worth it ... and then you know that its been done to your standards that way.
I agree about the poor level of service. Haven't these guys ever heard of Quality Assurance. I take my cars in only when the job is too big for me. If they take something apart with 4 screws holding it down, it will come back with only 3. That's why there are so many screws lying around the floors of these places. They just don't give a ....
What are we complaining about. If Holdens built halfway decent cars the poor service mechanics and apprentices would only ever learn to change oil and filters. Look at the experience they gain ever so quickly on even the latest model Holden vehicles.
Such a patriotic company.
Yeah, right with you there Sammy - I'd rather do it myself too.
In fact, you make a good point there - I guess I'd better check with the lease company on this. It's a slightly different arrangement than the lease with my other cars, so I might well be stuck in the same situation as you...Which fleet mob you with? I'm with Summit.

my car is leased through Leaseplan, its basically complete package, money goes out of my pay to them and i drive a car for free
im not sure how your lease works but with mine at the end of the lease i have the option to get a new car, buy out the current car or hand them the keys and walk away from it all ... so i guess if there is the option that they have to take a car and on sell it then they want to be sure its serviced properly and all that sorta stuff.
